Wii Recommendations.

Post by the_hawk » Tue Oct 21, 2008 8:19 am

I've finally come into the 21st century & got myself a Wii.

I was having a search through the forums to see if there was a recommendation thread for games to get, but I couldn't find one so apologies if this has been done many times before.

I know all games are subjective, but I've heard that there is a LOT of dross out there, so I was hoping that some of you guys could point me in the right direction.

For example are there any games (Aside from the VC games which look pretty good, but I've got a lot of these on other formats already) that would keep someone who isn't fond of complicated controls happy?

Cheers in advance.

No More Heroes. It uses extremely simple controls and is a hell of a lot of fun.

All 3 that were mentioned previously are indeed great, defo must have games.

Mario Kart Wii is should be fun if you have mates that like to play. Super Mario Galaxy is brilliant too...

Listen to him, even if you had RE4 for the Gamecube, PS2 or PC it is worth buying over again for the Wii as the motion controls really add a lot to the overall game.
Other games worth checking out:
Metroid Prime 3
Mario Galaxy
Super Paper Mario
Metal Slug Anthology
No More Heroes
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Sonic and the Secret Rings (Well I really enjoyed it!)

Ace, thanks guys, I knew you wouldn't let me down. :D

I'll add those to my Lovefilm list and once my bank balance recovers from buying the damn thing I'll be able to fork out for a few. 8)

Noticed Nights in PC World for £9.99 the other week. Any good?

Currys were doing No More Heroes for £15 new last weekend. I also picked up Metroid Prime 3 for £10 from there. Both bargains at that price.

As for Nights... I keep all my old games. There are only a few I've sold in the last 30 years, probably so few I could count them on one hand. Nights is so good I gave it to SirClive for free without him even asking - I even paid the postage, so disappointed was I with it.

Tiger Woods 09 is an essential imho. I wouldn't bother with earlier versions as they have no online play. 09 also has an idiot mode that makes it near impossible not to hit a perfect shot, so it entertains all levels. Played properly its both challenging and fun, though the time limit online is a bit tight for some shots.

For puzzle games, Mercury Meltdown Revolution is well worth a punt.

Ghost Squad and House of the Dead are both decent lightgun style games.

Geometry Wars Galaxies can be had for under a tenner and is a good shmup if score attack is your thing.

I love Excite Truck which is both exhilarating and hilarious in equal measure - a real feel good game.
Super Mario Galaxy is an utter work of genius, and I HATE Mario games. A bit frustrating though.

But my favourite Wii game is barely even a game. Endless Ocean. It's lovely. You just dive and explore coral reefs, swim about with whales and look for stuff. Visuals are completely superb and it's just a joy to play.

Agreed. Wish the graphics had been improved a bit from the Gamecube version but it is an incredibly immersive experience and consistenly ranks in many gamers top 10, the controls are awesome and accurate. Coroversially (maybe) I suggest you already own one of the best Wii games - Wii Sports, I must have spent hundreds of hours on this (particularly Tennis) and its free too!
Shout outs for Metroid Prime 3, Excite Truck (fast as f**k) and as a social game; Samba De Amigo.

I've not yet tried it, but I just went up to Asda for milk and picked up the newly released De Blob for only £17.
