I wouldn't, the age of the fanzine is well over and profit for you or not, more than a copy of RG for 32 pages is no going to attract.

I respect your comments Dudley, but why should the age of a fanzine be over? I don't get that statement.

I agree £4 is steep, I think If we do this then a PDF can be distributed as well. But if ppl want to buy a printed copy then they can.

Maybe able to bring price down if we reduce from A4 to A5. Or charge the same and increase the page count..

I think Dud's means that 'fanzine's' have had their day.
RF was more of a magazine than a fanzine, so I reckon you should be going for that kind of style.

Yep, I knew what he meant, and my question remains...

It's like saying 2D graphics have had their time - we should not be doing them again...

I disagree, fanzines have an air of the amateur and make me think of students with their rag mags. If someone is effectively gonna pay the same as they would for a professional magazine they are likely to expect the kind of quality they got with RF rather than a fanzine style product. But that is just my opinion.

The Fanzine!

I might be talking out of turn here but I will 'hopefully' be organising the print and some of the layout for this fanzine as i work at a printers, and believe me it wont be a rag mag. It wont be up to the standards of RG but it will look good, especially with input from all of you guys.

I think a lot of the retro gamers will go for it. The type of people to moan at Retro Gamer and its price will probably have a heart attack though about this and wont buy it but i do think theres a lot of passionate retro gamers who would like to buy this.

Looking forward to it, more retro stuff the better !

Dont care if its a bit amateurish...thats the beauty of these things.,a bit human..like RG, not all corporate and bland.
I get fed up of the polished perfect crap that gets churned out by so called elitish twats in their high towers.
Get to much of that in my life already.
Just do it..... 8)

@oldtimer,
I know exactly what you mean - so many magazines have gone too - erm - corporate . . . i used to buy Amiga Format which was superb, then went onto erm PC Format which started off okay but has now gone to censored! The only mag I buy now is RG.

Don't care if it's A5, b&w and photocopied.
If it's well written & informative I'd buy it.
I have many of the 'original' Retrogamer fanzines and they were fantastic.

Not really because 2d can still be better.

But the retro world already has a print mag at effectively 1/3rd the cost per page and there's are a million retro websites doing the same job, more than one of which run by yourself.

I'm not sure what this is supposed to give us, and its price per page hasn't been seen since 90s era Amstrad Action.

I kind of agree with Dudley - and I'm not sure what the point of another magazine/fanzine would be. Surely it would be like restarting RF all over again and even with the best of intentions, rivalries germinate when there is competition. RF v RG v RS all over again? No thank you.

I'm not against competition you understand but there are always going to be fanboys that stir the retro pot and retroland has been quite a pleasant place of late with friendly events and civil forums.

I'd concentrate on Eurogamer (is Boyo is still retro boss there?) rather than start another publishing venture.
