You mean MTV Icon: Metallica. It also had live cover performances by:

Avril Lavigne - Fuel
Snoop Dogg - Sad But True

This is a joke right?

[Shakes head in disbelief ]

The best metallica cover is Machine Head - Battery

I think my favourite cover album of all time has to be Paul Anka - Rock Swings

He covers rock tracks in a big band / swing / Sinatra style.
e.g. Wonderwall, Jump (Van Halen), Black Hole Sun (Soundgarden)

Check it out if you can.

Another one to look out for is Nouvelle Vague, doing punk covers in a Parisian lounge jazz style. They have a female vocalist with French accent. Sexy. (includes Teenage Kicks, Too Drunk to F*ck, Love will tear us apart)

Favourite cover of all time though would be the Cat Empire doing Hotel California, in French.

Then there's Richard Cheese (& Lounge Against The Machine). His version
of "Baby Got Back" is hilarious.

Keeping on the Metallica tip, Rodrigo y Gabriela have done an awesome acoustic Hispanic acoustic version of "Orion".
