More Paypal problems!!

Post by David » Fri Sep 05, 2008 11:05 am

I've just checked my paypal and the account balance is -£47 as someone is saying that the gamecube I posted to them on 27th August hasn't arrived!

Now it was posted first class, so I don't have any tracking number or anything, so what can I do here???

It was definitely posted on that date, but I can't prove it

Surely Paypal can't act on an 'item not delivered' claim that quickly - it usually takes them ages, or has whenever I've made a claim - 4 weeks minimum!

I'd suggest a call to Paypal/Ebay Customer Service...

I've just chosen to "Escalate" it to a complaint

Surely they can't just take money from my account based on someone's word?!?!

What a corrupt sham of an organisation

They can and will unless you have a tracking nos. i send all valuable items recorded delivery.
You can still claim your money back via royal mail but it takes ages a month at least

Paypal wont even recognise a receipt it has to be able to be tracked online, if youve lost the original receipt/proof of posting then even the post office wont give you a refund

So basically I could go onto ebay, buy anything that is advertised as being posted first class, receive the item, then say I didn't get it and get my money back?

thats what is basically happening here

Yep, however if someone then submits a compensation claim to Royal mail, then said receiver would be committing postal fraud, i assume royal mail keep a record of addresses that have claims agains them, at least i hope they would

They ordered an item you didn't deliver, they're entirely entitled to their money back. If you ordered from GAME and it never turned up would you expect to not get a refund?

Frankly, even if you send recorded via a courier, PayPal sometimes refunds buyers.

I've also just had a nice one from Paypal.
Bought a video recorder (mine broke down) from a seller at £10 plus the usual ridiculous £10 P&P. Postage was actually £5.25 and as it was packaged with used brown paper no packaging costs were incured.
It arrived ok but when i turned it on it dosen't work. Powers up ok but nothing else.
Seller insists it was working ok when it was posted which is strange because i've now taken it apart and removed the video that was stuck all around the inners (still dosen't work BTW).
Seller has refused to refund me. Claimed with Paypal who have just made this wonderful decision.
They will refund me. But........
I am responsible for the cost of posting it back and they insist i return by special delivery. And then they will only refund the original cost of the item not the postage?
So thats £20 total from me. Cost to return is £12.65 by SD and i'll then be refunded £10. I'm so pleased that PP sorted this one out.

It's quite likely that the buyer is scamming him. It seems to be all too common that unscrupulous buyers have learned they can take advantage of Paypal's buyer protection plan simply by falsely claiming they didn't receive their item.

If I recall correctly, there were a few people here with similar experiences in this thread:
