£750 PAL Megadrive Game????

Post by consolepassion » Tue Aug 05, 2008 7:03 am

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere but someone posted me this eBay auction link today:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0258492645

Now am I the only one who thinks this is massively overpriced?

Kind of wish I'd held on to the two I have had in the past instead of selling them for £50 and £70!

This was covered in one of Overheat's threads. I think it was something to do with the specific packaging?

Yes, it is the Blue Cover, rather than the Sega Classics cover which is more common. I have had two (blue cover) though over the last few years and it definately isn't £750 rare!?!

Well, you must know the market for Megadrive games better than anyone.

If you were unsure of the value of this specific version, it begs the Q, what where you doing trying to sell a sports game for £50 or £70 in the first place?

Surely you must know that this is officially the one of the top 3 rarest PAL MD games in existence.

I'd guess, no!

It's back to the old collector/hoarder scenario again.

As football games go on the Megadrive it begins and ends with Sensible Soccer.

More money than sense to buy (or sell) a crap football game because it's got a different cover!!

You are essentially paying for a blue cover. Everything in perspective though, people pay a lot for broaches and pots or whatever, maybe this guy knowing something he has is very rare is enough for him, but who do you show it off to who will appreciate it? Hell even most of us probably wouldn't be bothered. :?

I actually know the Buyer (& seller for that matter from a different Forum). The buyer has been after this game for a long time & its his holy grail (I'm sure we all have one :) ). At the end of the day he,s happy & the sellers happy.

Me, I think I'll go out & buy a pack of BLUE felt tips

It is if someone is prepared to pay £750 for it.

Hiya,
Thanks. Yep the Saturn collection is the complete Pal library, just missing a few Manuals. I have been paying serious attention to the collection for about 2 years up to then I just got games as & when.

I sold this game once on eBay for £50 and once to a private collector for £70. This game has never sold for more than £100 before - if anyone else can tell me otherwise I'd be interested to know where.

I do know my market, and this *IS* the rarest Megadrive game, much rarer than Megaman The Wily Wars, but IMHO it is not £750 rare - no where near in fact, but like several people pointed out it is worth as much as someone is willin to pay for it, in this case it was £750.

The reason I said I wished I'd held on to mine instead of previously selling them is I wouldn't have dreamed someone would pay £750 for this game, and I doubt the seller did either.

I think that's why it's so hard to put a value on retro games, what might sell for £100 one week could sell for £750 the next because 2 guys get suddenly decide they really want it and bid it up.
