EBay forced me to update to the new payment method, but they’ve also been giving me £1 listings. So something I sold for £310 I got £309.

Basically EBay take what they are owed and pay in the rest so I guess it can seem a lot less.

I've been selling bits in batches over the last year... always wait for those £1 max fees promotions. They seem to do them every month or so.

Mines running normally still although I have had the email to set up my bank acount being directly linked, it seems to just be randomly implemented and has been affecting buyers too where it requests extra items before allowing them to bid, it's pretty much just bitter pettyness from the dissolution of the partnership with Paypal.
Right now I've no choice but to carry on but I am wary of their antics.

I object to the nagging messages like "You must post by monday", etc despite not having received any payment. I suspect that being late to ship affects the seller's overall rating.

I've got mine set at 10 days so I usually get peace for a while as I can't get stuff out fast, it's to do with the agreement thing.

The new payment system applies to everybody from 30th April so I switched over to it today and have sold a few things.

Seems okay to be fair. Fees deducted at the source is better than having a massive bill at the end of the month that I'd forgotten about! The payments setting screen is easy to understand too - you can switch payouts to be weekly or daily, although "daily" means 2 business days from the sale of an item for those funds. I might switch to weekly just to stop loads of transactions going into my account and making it a mess but I'll leave it as is for now.

The main downside will be if you are the kind of seller living on the edge and absolutely need those funds in order to pay for the postage.

The other is that ebay promoting the abolition of Paypal fees as a positive reason to accept their new system is just a smokescreen to cover the fact that they have raised fees! The 10% final value fee is now 12.8%, and there is a mandatory 30p ending fee on top of that cannot be avoided. It will make selling lower value items less viable going forward, which might actually be more of an issue for a buyer since more and more sellers might decide to not bother list cheap bits. Reading through the new fee rules, it also looks like there is a 2-point-something % fee for shipping to an international buyer which is absolute BS in my mind.

So yeah, some bad, some good. The system works, but the fee increase on ebay's part was sh*t, even if I was completely expecting it. I'm only going to be selling stuff during the "max £1 selling fee" promotion periods from now to avoid feeling the pinch of the increases.
