Being somewhat pessimistic I used to stare at the screen at all the lovely colours as my C64 games loaded and slowly being convinced that they wouldn't actually load.

On my fist computer an Oric I used to sit on cushions which were on top of the cassette recorder the game was loading from.
This because for some reason the volume could not be altered, so you had to listen the game loading.

You must have had a dodgy tape deck. My Oric loading was silent.

I always keep magazines around when I'm waiting for anything (commercials to finish, games to load, etc.)

Lately, I was playing PSP while waiting for Call of Juarez to load. Good game that, I started playing last December, stopped for months then just went back to it. Loading does literally take minutes though, its just like the old days - just a loading screen and some music while a progress bar creeps along.

Some games i would have to sit there with my hand pressed on the tape deck to hold it down while it loaded or it would crash.

I used to keep my WWF figures next to my 464 while it was loading.

I did used to enjoy when I bought a new game though, and it would draw a picture line by line, i'd sit and watch that the first time it loaded.

I used to play darts, my Speccy & C64 both had a large number of small holes in them due to ricocheted darts.

We had a copy book left in front of the computer and I'd spend the loading time doodling cartoons or messages or something for my brother to see when he'd be waiting. He'd do the same. We filled that copy up good, but it's long since lost.

Some real comedy gems in there.
