Look-in

Post by dste » Sat Dec 29, 2012 3:24 pm

Anyone remember Look-in?

It was a magazine which was centered around ITV's programmes and ran from 1971-1994. Featuring articles, TV listings and comic strips the magazine also featured stuff regarding music.

I used to buy it on a regular basis and still remember the last issue having Mark Owen from Take That on the cover, was just before finding out about Metal.

I replied to a penpal request in Look-In magazine, probably in 1985. I'm still in touch with my penpal and we've become firm friends :)

Always used to really dislike it, and found it a bit scary for some reason, not sure why - I think they used to have Super Gran in it, so that may be it... I was a 'TV Tops' reader myself - free Space-Invader pin badge with the first issue if I remember correctly, and a very cool Adam Ant comic strip :)

Tops was tops. I did still have the Adam Ant strip saved for years. Wonder if its online anywhere?

I remember Look In, mostly because I didn't win a VCS having sent in a compo entry. I felt so cheated by that as I'd put a lot of effort into it. Posting things was a big deal in the 70s.

My brother started getting Look In and it continued to be bought for us for years. I still have some posters from it somewhere (Adam Ant, Star Wars, Madness etc). It was a good extension of favourite TV shows and always good for posters.

I thought it was a girls magazine, so never bothered with it. Clearly I was wrong. No loss though, I was more of an Eagle fan myself.

Yes I used to have it ordered in at my local Newsagents - used to enter the competitions every issue and never won a single one - must have entered 100s over time - tossers!

It catered for both markets, with comic strips, bands and features that appealed to girls too. That did tend to make it pretty light reading as there was stuff you'd skip, but I had a sister who'd read those so it was more of a mag for the family than any one individual unlike Eagle (which was bought for me alone). If you went back to it now it would probably be a good indication of general pop culture of the time.

Me too - easy to think that considering that when I first started noticing in on the shelves it had the likes of Bros and New Kids On The Block on the cover all the time. I'd just buy a comic or Shoot! instead.

Never got into Look-in, again i always thought it was a bit 'girlie' (plus my sister used to get it which didnt help that view !). 2000ad for me all the time in the 80's with a few Eagle/Commando issues here and there
