I was reminded of another book I couldn't finish, again even with cheating, but can't recall the name. You're an ogre or some such, and the opening has you beaten and left for dead down in a dungeon, possibly with amnesia, and I think the character was a lieutenant on a floating ship in The Trolltooth Wars? I was never able to get out of the dungeon!

Creature of Havoc! Possibly the hardest Fighting Fantasy book, and classic Steve jackson in that it's possible to get halfway through the book only to discover you're missing an item from about 50 sections back that you couldn't possibly have know was there unless you went left rather than right at a random junction and then die, and have to start all over again. I love you Steve.

I share the authors opinion, out of all the Fighting Fantasy books to pick to base a comic book series on, a blatant Mad Max 2 rip off is an odd one. Unless you wanted to do a Mad Max book and couldn't get the rights...

Looks like we're getting another new release of the series along with a new Ian Livingstone book Port of Peril. I'm hoping for a Port Blacksand based pirate adventure, City of Thieves and Midnight Rogue were two of my favourites:

Well i bought the digital version of Freeway Fighter #1

Really liked it, great imagery, nice story so far. Think #2 is coming out pretty soon, i'll be picking that up for sure

I think I'll treat myself to the mobile version of Down Among the Deadmen. I think I preferrred the old VR series as I use to get bored of faffing around with dice. I hope they do the others in the series.

Quite fancy Sorcery! too but it's £17 for the lot and I'm too cheap to spend proper money on it. Maybe I'll just get the books again.

The Sorcery! Apps by Inkle are brilliant, go way beyond what the books could reasonably hope to produce, with additional options, mechanics and dialogue, they're well worth it. They're on sale every so often, you might get them cheap. If you liked Virtual Reality, Cubus did a version of one of Dave's other books from the series, Necklace Of Skulls, the one set in the Mayan world. It's a good adaptation, but the combat system they've tacked on is bloody annoying until you get used to it.

Although they aren't due out until early August, Port of Peril along with the new prints of Warlock of Firetop Mountain and City of Thieves are on the shelves in some WH Smiths.

I haven't got the new release of city of thieves yet which I loved back in the day. I have got warlock already.

Has anybody bought port of peril yet? Wondering if it's any good/ the premise

I got the collectors edition and in all honesty the stories pretty dire. In the first paragraph you gain 1 stamina yet haven't lost any yet and the first part is a rush to find food as your starving yet you begin with 10 provisions.
There are loads of other consultancies like this and it really feels rushed and poorly proofread but anything that reignited people's love for gamebooks is good imho.
