Thought Black Velvet would top the list!
I like most of that album, and really like her follow-up album 'Rockinghorse' from a few years later.

When you think you've got problems you don't really need,
They're maybe not as bad as they seem,
Cos in a world full of misery, with hatred and greed,
Your problems are another man's dream.

The Timelords - Doctorin' The Tardis (that was the KLF in disguise)
Doctor and the Medics - Spirit in the Sky (still better than the Norman Greenbaum version)

A few you'd probably count as well:

Hothouse Flowers - Don't Go
River City People - California Dreamin' (again, better than the The Mamas & The Papas)

I have albums of both of these, but whilst River City People's 'Say Something Good' is a decent album, there aren't any other 'hits' on it. And the Hothouse Flowers CD is dreadful. Depending on how much you remember you could probably list loads like this, like T'Pau (China in your Hand) and Was Not Was (Walk the Dinosaur), although both had other charting singles and multiple albums back in their time, even if you only remember them for one song.

A classic one hit wonder is a song that comes from nowhere, is a hit, and then absolutely nothing from that artist ever dents the charts again.

There's no way that T'Pau can even remotely be classed as one hit wonders. China In Your Hand was their only number one but they had other top ten hits before and after that release.

Even Stiltskin managed another Top 40 hit after Inside.

so did chesney hawkes  and crash test dummies... and vanilla ice... and danny wilson... and deep blue something... and meredith brooks... and house of pain... and 2 in a room... and hothouse flowers... and river city people... and was (not was)... even the firm (star trekkin) did an arthur daley song before it...

and that's just in the UK - it's hard to define one hit wonder, particularly since some artists had success in other countries.

But T'Pau though?

You're having a laugh.

Anybody who had a string of chart hits can in no way whatsoever be called a one hit wonder. Stiltskin, Hothouse Flowers, Dr & The Medics etc etc, yes. One major hit that they're famous for followed by a minor "hit" that some people might know about followed by total chart obscurity says One Hit Wonder territory to me. But not a band that hit the top ten on at least three different occasions. Or any other band that did the same. Or any other band that consistently put singles into the top 40 without a top ten entry.

Two great examples of this - AC/DC and The Cult.
