Lock up *1989 movie

Post by Fred83 » Sat Aug 21, 2010 12:09 pm

Here's a movie i think that's often looked over in sly Stallone's career.Playing a prisoner who's under the watchful eye of the sadistic governor who's played brilliantly by Donald Sutherland.Who goes out of his way to settle an old score and break him.Has anyone else ever seen this great movie?.

This is a great movie - a while back it seemed to be on TV every few months but I guess I don't watch much TV these days.

Not one of Stallone's big event films but it's still enjoyable.

I think Anthony Kiedis (of Red Hot Chili Peppers fame) played his son, although 1989 would mean he was about 20 or something?

Loved this film back in the day... Especially when he smashes that bloke over the head with a dumbbell.

Another good Stallone movie - but this must have been on the telly around 50 times in the last 2 years :D

I assume Bill Conti must have had something to do with the music on this, some of the music is very "Rockyesque"

Oooh a Stallone film I haven't seen. Just off to look for it.

EDIT: found it. Will watch that tonight. Just found a 40gb pack of Stallone films, there are 42 of them and I have seen 38.

Just finished watching it. Great stuff. An oh so 80s film (even though it was made right at the end of the decade). It isn't going to rival Rocky or First Blood, but it is definitely up there with Sly's best.

As soon as the opening notes of the opening tune came on I thought 'Bill Conti' and sure enough he was the man who did the soundtrack. Seems he was as busy in the 80s as John Williams, though Williams seems to have stuck around longer.

I stand corrected, it was 1978 F.I.S.T. with Stallone. :)

Picked this up for a quid recently and think it is one of his better films.

I have a love of prison films and think that even though this steals tiny bits from other prison classics, it still has a great story - especially the sadistic fat piece of censored guard who end up getting fried....

Just watched Rambo 2 on hd dvd today and absolutely loved it....James Cameron co-wrote the screenplay you know !!!!

Stallone is superb.

Yeah - the arm wrestling film.....have this on DVD - have not seen it for ages.....may give it a whirl again over the weekend.
This is not one of his best films, but is still watchable none the less.

One of my favourites of this era has to be Cobra though....especially the first scene in the supermarket.
