Buster!
Not had chance to read all the previous pages so not sure if somebody's already mentioned it.
I actually bought a load of eBay a few weeks ago for the nostalgia rush!

I never did 'serious' comics as a kid. I used to get Whizzer & Chips & Buster Weekly after straying from the Beano & The Dandy. That said I did manage to get a peek at some adult comics in the guise of Viz & Zit, Zit was awful!

Beano, Dandy, Krazy, Whizzer & Chips, 200AD, Shoot

You promised you'd take me there again someday, but you never did.

All about that truly terrible Zit!

Load Runner's definitely real - I've got a couple of them, and gave another issue of it to the_hawk a few years ago...
It's spelt LOAD Runner, not LODE Runner, which is probably why you can't find it on eBay

I always read DC comics UNTIL...I read the me first Marvel - Fantastic Four, first issue. I never purchase another DC.

Re: What Comics did you read as a kid?
Just the Beano! I was a bit of a Beano fanboy but I wouldn't turn down a sneak peek at a Dandy now and then!

That is so, so good mate!!!!! Cheers for putting the time in, brought back many memories, will check the rest of your blog later AND fully read all those strips!TwoHeadedBoy wrote:

That 'One Man and his Maggots' was genius, that guy is of vintage Viz quality, I missed a lot of Drunken Bakers due to Viz's decrease in quality but shall dig some up online.
Also, that Timothy Christopher strip *might* be by the same guy who did the 'weird little fat-headed people' near the end of the article...I hated that guy's style at the time (as a cartoony guy, hate it more now!) because all his characters had the same expression and all pretty much look like Odie from Garfield. Could be wrong but they share the same lack of....how do I put it...'comic timing' in the expression department, compared to Viz? Like, there's something inherently amusing about, say, the Viz artist Graham Dury's style, his characters twinkle with comic stupidity, most of the Zit stuff is clearly by lesser talents. Ramble ramble.
Anyhoo, good stuff, will look forward to further entries!

Thanks a lot, Mr. Jazzfunk
It's bits of your advice on the subject of rude comics that helped a lot in accumulating the amount of the things I have now... Still got 23 titles to "cover", with the next one being Northern Lightz. Not doing them chronologically or anything, as that'd take a LOT more advanced planning, plus I'm finding new ones all the times so it'd be obviously fruitless.
Click on the "Viz-A-Likes" tag at the bottom of the Zit bit to be taken to all the rude comic articles
