I was going to start a new thread about Atmosfear but I decided to check first. Sorry

I was going to say how we had it, but only ever played it once, but got an uncanny feeling of déjà vu. :|

This game was known as Nightmare in the US. Fun little recap here.

I remember seeing the commercials for the Nightmare and AtmosFear games years ago, back when I was at the perfect age for them. But I never did get those games for Christmas, or get to play one with a friend. So when I found one in my local thrift store this week, I had hope that my nephews, ages 12 and 15, would be interested in trying it out.

They were very enthusiastic after looking over the box, and we've since had three plays. All our games have gone down to the wire, and have been lively, hectic, and a lot of fun. I'm happy with it. I asked my younger nephew Elijah for his thoughts, so that I could share the perspective of a boy who's just gotten to the recommended age for AtmosFear, and see how it had impressed him.

Eli says,

"The box is solid. The dude on the front is creepy and it makes you want to play it.

The characters are interesting, and the stories about them. It would be cool if they had different powers, though.

The Gatekeeper looks like a mix of Freddy Kreuger and The Emperor from Star Wars. You think he's going to be scary, but he's really just cheesy and it's funny. His insults are kind of dumb, but it's cool when he talks.

I like that it's interactive.

I like the theme and the idea that you have to get different keys from each realm in order to escape, and then face your greatest fear. It's fun to go through all the other fears afterward, too.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars."

I'm guessing you're talking about the cheesy DVD game, and not the superior VHS version.

I have 2 of those old VHS board games, I have atmosfear and another pirate themed one called skull and crossbones or something. I don't know how complete they are though.

I remember them sponsoring WWF which worked well just before an Undertaker match.

Picked up a sealed copy of Atmosfear III in the charity shop the other day. Previously I only had the video for it (that's now up on random niceness btw).

Huge bump (cannot believe started this thread nearly four years ago) as Den of Geek have an article regarding playing the game back in the day.

I'm always seeing Atmosfear in my local charity shops, different versions and expansions or whatever. The boxes looked interesting I'll give it that.

just stumbled onto this thread, gotta admit it depressed me a little, i had the original game with the gatekeeper VHS as well as 2 of the expansions and remember it being a genuinely good board game, well worth a play with mates in a darkened room, even though it's not exactly scary the experience is an amusing one. Sadly i imagine mine are all long gone, as the mother wasn't exactly kind to my possessions once i moved out :(
Visit www.youtube.com/replayretro . why? well erm, cos it would be awfully friendly of you to take a look i guess, you don't have to though, nobody will make you *sob sob*

I think there is one (the original) at my parents house, we used it twice so if it's still around, it's in great condition. You're welcome to it for postage if you genuinely want it?
