Red Dwarf, You Smegheads!!!!

Post by SpiffierRabbit » Mon Sep 21, 2009 5:35 pm

I love Red Dwarf, well love it up to series 6, then it sort of went downhill from there, and the 3 episode comeback shows, well... don't get me started on those! I always will stand by series 3 & 4 were the best of the saga by far.

Still have all the original VHS tapes...

Big fan of series 3, 4, 5 and 6 but not too fussed about any of the others.

Was never a fan of Red Dwarf after series 5, prior to that I lived and breathed the series. Didn't like it from series 6 onward when Rimmer got a lot nicer (well nicer for him anyway!) and Dwayne Dibley and Ace Rimmer started to get over-done. Hilarious first time guys , but please move on to new material (although the munchkin song in Series VII was f*kin hilarious). I still think Back To Reality (last ep. series 5)was a fitting finale to the show.

As for best ever episode , it's a toss up between Me2 and Queeg , although the last 30 seconds of Waiting For God 'It's a smegging garbage pod!' are hilarious

I'm a big fan, though 7 was a let down, and 8 was worse. The Dave channel thing was terrible, and is the only RD I haven't bought on DVD. I have most on VHS, too.

I've got the first 4 on VHS, and taped the rest off the telly.

One of my all time favourite shows! Been a huge fan for years, love the earlier stuff more, when Dave was dirtier, Rimmer was more of a tosser and Cat was plain stupid and vain.I think most people accept that it jumped the shark around series 6 or 7.

Fave episode is probably Dimension Jump -"What a guy....."

I've seen (and thoroughly enjoyed) series 1-5; never seen 6 onwards as I was out of the country at the time and it was way before all this magic torrential shog - we had to send each other chocolate-box sized tapes through the post, and usually couldn't be arsed.

I think the reason everyone seems to hate series 6 onwards is because this is when I stopped watching it. Must be. "Innit".

Huge fan. Only series 7 was a let down. Have all the DVDs and got a RD2 book signed by the cast at a show last year. They were all really great people apat from Cat who was arguining with someone on the phone the whole time.

There's nothing wrong with series 6! It's great.

For me series 6 was the one where every episode was top notch, whereas in the preceding ones there were always episodes I could take or leave.

Couldn't have said it better. Series 6 onwards the actors started playing up their own characters, and the show changed almost out of recognition imho - and not for the better. I preferred it when Lister was a total slob , Rimmer was a completed smeghead and the pair's whole purpose in life (death in Rimmer's case) was to annoy the hell out of each other. When they started to get more pally from Season 6 onwards it just didnt seem the same characters - Horsemen of The Apocalypse is a prime example of the change in attitude.

"We all have something to bring to this conversation and I think the thing you should bring is silence"

So many classic lines.

Loved Red Dwarf right up to Season 6. After that... not so much.
I think therefore I'm right!

Me2 was a brilliant episode as well.

Also loved the new insults that the crew made up , 'gimboid' being a particular favourite
