Post by do_sucol » Thu Jul 09, 2009 1:50 am

Already put this in the centurion thread, but this classic show deserves it's own topic !

Now i'm off to do my late night recycling, trying to avoid the swarm of snails that are always waiting down the road to asda and the wasps who have set up shop in the air brick in the side of our house or hoose as yeh say doon here.

Might have a sly pee while i'm down ,can't beat a sly pee,as long as i don't break my kneck getting there on my bike.

I only briefly remember the show itself and the theme tune as I was about 6-7 at the time.

However I do very briefly recall them showing a very obscure Australian kids show called "Professor Poopsnaggles Steam Zeppelin" ... For years I never knew the name but had this very strange memory of a flying red bus with a zeppelin type contraption on top (and a very crap theme tune). I love the internet.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professor_ ... m_Zeppelin

And of course there was the "Get Mucky" competition which featured two teams playing Starglider...

Yes, a version that had a 3 minute time limit.

I'm still hoping that Jez might stumble upon that version on disk somewhere and let me put it up on my web site.

That would be the show where Gaz Top had the only haircut to outdo Julian Rignall and Gilbert the alien was obviously voiced by someone stoned out of his mind? Great show.

The full theme tune (so to speak). Interesting to hear this as he's done a nice job of it:

Ahh I have fond memories of this show. I remember when it came to the town where I lived (Teignmouth). I dare say every young person in Teignmouth was crowed around the big space ship they had there. I never did work out if the space ship was just there for show and the crew were actually in the studio in the other side of the country (was it Maidstone?) or if they were actually in the ship (I wondered if it was a small studio).

I remember recording it too and watching it back afterwards to try and spot myself in the crowd.

Yeah :) Its only recently bits have been sneaking onto the net. Some years back there was sod all, and I had wondered it was all the colourings I was eating at the time which made me dream it all up.

I don't think i'd want to actually watch it again... the opening sequence pretty much kills that wish... ;-)

That's not the theme tune - it was more reminiscent of something by The Art of Noise.

Always liked the show though. Gian Siammarco who played Adrian Mole also presented it to start with, but I don't think he lasted very long. Plus of course there were The Centurions as the resident cartoon. With this and Number 73 I don't think I bothered with BBC1 on Saturday mornings for a good few years -Gilbert the Alien versus Mike Read? No contest!
