Jesus H Corbett......

I would love to see a top (very top) spec Amiga running these days to see what it is capable of.......
you can see what some souped up amiga1200s can do when they have the accelorator card, even with an 030 card and some generous amount of ram you can run doom, quake though would need a faster card again
i agree, i've got a blizzard 030 50mhz with 32mb ram in mine and it runs alien breed 3d 2 brilliantly, not the best game to use as a example but with no accelleration it runs more like driller on the c64

my first pc was a 486 over clocked to 90mhz  , then upgraded to a pentium 133, then a amd k62@500mhz my current pc is a 2gig athlon and i refuse to upgrade again

Did very little with it apart from play First Encounters and Command and Conquer.

The girlfriend at the time bagged it about six months later when we split and I bought a second hand Amiga 1200 with loads of games for £150.

There's probably a moral to that story somewhere :?
I got my Commodore branded P75 in early 1996 for £1500 from Escom on £50 monthly payment over two years.
Played C&C a lot, good memory of playing DOTT and finishing it. Had it for 4 years and got immense mileage out of it.

If you want to actually see an example of an A1200 running with a decent accellerator, come to Retro Reunited as I'm taking my souped up A1200.

I had an ESCOM pentium 1 for my first PC I think. Cost £1700. Within a year it was out of date and I still had more to pay on it than I could buy a new one for :(

A mate worked for 3com, he sourced one of these for me for university from his companies stock clearance (they were moving over to those newfangled laptops).

http://incolor.inetnebr.com/jshorney/p70.htm

386DX 20mhz
8mb ram
120mb HD
MCA soundblaster
Dos 5, Windows 3.1, MS Word.

played doom fine, Display? any colour you want as long as it is black or a shade of orange!

Weighed a ton, but portable enough to go lug to my digs in halls from home.

Got me through Uni, sold it to a friend and she got another 3 years academic use out of it!

lol - my first PC was a Goldstar 286/12 - it had 1mb of memory and a 20mb Hard Disk... it just had DOS as its Operating System and cost me nearly £1000 brand new...

I remember trying to load as much as possible into High Memory to pinch as much of the memory into base memory as possible... lol

Mine was a homebuilt pc by a family friend. Don't know any stats sadly, except for that it ran Windows 95.

Then moved on to another homebuilt one by the same guy, this time running Windows 98.

And then onto a Dell Dimension 4600 in 2004 with a 3.06 GHZ processor with 512mb RAM. Of which I still have, but now with 1.5gb of RAM. And a 512mb graphics card, runs anything I've ever tried on it like Spore, the latest Hitman and such other new titles. Also sports Windows Vista Ultimate.

I then purchased an iMac G4 running tiger (for £90!) to have in my room for basic web browsing and using it for iTunes. It has a 700MHZ processor and 512mb of ram. Also wields a 32mb graphics card.

And recently I purchased a Advent 5431 laptop. With 1 (now 2)gb of ram, a 2GHZ Dual core processor running Windows Vista Home Premium. It blows away all my other computers added together :P

My first pc was a 386sx bought for about £1000 in the early 90's. It was made by Commodore if I remember rightly. It only had 1mg of ram, and it was a bugger to configure. At least I managed to get Monkey Island 2, Wing Commander and X-Wing to work on it!

Think it was a 386/maybe a 486 but it definitely had Windows 3.1 on it. We moan about Windows now but f**king hell!

How so many of you can remember the specs of your machines so clearly is beyond me!

Remember my parent's because it was my first and only gaming experience until the Dreamcast. Had a hell of a lot of fun (and pain in upgrades etc) on the PC!

My first PC was some old Mac that died, and I can't even remember what the model name was.

Well, my brother had an Amiga 1200, but the first on I used on my own had 256mb RAM, an 800Mhz CPU and Windows 98. Also when I lived in Poland, in our classroom in elementary school we had either some wierd PC with MS-DOS or some other primitive computer. I remember it had a blue background and white text, didn't use a mouse, and I think you typed stuff in before you could play, and somehow emulated Super Mario Bros. Speaking of retro PCs, does anyone remember a little game called Prehistorik? It was a very good Mario clone with a stone-age theme, and the sequel had some wierd King-Kong clone... was that a PC or one of those 80's/early 90's computers?

See, this is why oldschool stuff kicks ass :) I wish I was born in 1980

i think it was about 1994/95 (whenever Win 95 first arrived)....it was a Evesham Vale P90 running Windows 95 (highest spec CPU was the 120 at time of purchase)...so soon overclocked to 100mhz. Most of the time was spent fannying around with QEMM/DOS startups to get things like Sam & Max running.....but it did have the best version of the original Need for Speed (when it was more like Test Drive...not Chav Drive)....worked better with proper control than the 3do and god awful Playstation versions. Played plenty of Wing Commander (mainly 3 & 4)....and Sim City 2000.....had enough of trying to get games to work by 1996 and got a PS1....although i did go back to build a few PCs later on. Dad still has the P90 at work (not that it's used as he owns a modern machine)...and it still functions just fine!!
