Retro Films With Retro Games in em!

Post by Platopotato » Wed Apr 26, 2006 4:28 am

It strikes me that it would be nice to recomend or point out some films that have a retro gaming connection....

I'll start the ball rolling with Moon Cresta heard in the "Frog Brothers" comic shop on The Lost Boys.

D.A.R.Y.L had Pole Position and some others. At one point, he plays a load of games all at once (due to being a robot).

Terminator 2 had Missile Command and After Burner.

This Is Spinal Tap also had some rendition of Missile Command, albeit a home version. ('Quite exciting, this computer magic!' - Viv Savage)

Tron had a multitude of 'cades, and so on.

Dare I mention 'The Wizard?'...

More when I remember.

Jaws had the shark attack game in it.

Electric dreams had a reference to pac-man.

I think Mallrats has one of the early NHL games on the Genesis on it.

RoboCop 2 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles also had a lot of coin-ops in them and both were made in 1990.

I think that might have been Chasing Amy.

Nope definitely Mallrats, at the start when you first meet Brodie. If I recall Kevin Smith said that although the EA sports NHL games were far superior, Sega got him to use their version by promising they could join them on a Sega roadshow or something like that, which ultimately failed to materialise.

Kevin Smith films rule by the way!!! :D :D :D

One of my favorite 80s movies, Better off Dead. If you look real close in the "romantic" scene in the burger place, there's a Robotron 2084 (my fav game) in the background.

Marty McFly playing Wild Gunman in Back To The Future 2.
Although I don't think an arcade version ever existed, it was only on the NES.
