Why did they axe *submit name here*

Bullseye?

I mean the REAL one , on ITV with good old Jim. Everyone I ever speak to loved it , many (most?) people can still remember the theme tune and all of Bowen's catchphrases. So why did they drop it , and why did it end up languishing on Challenge TV without the man himself in charge?

It seems a shame that one of the great tv quiz shows has ended up like this.Come to think of it , where are all the tv game shows , with the iconic quiz-masters these days? Blankety Blank , Winner Takes All , Catchphrase , Big Break , Bullseye , 3-2-1 , Blockbusters , The Price Is Right , Name That Tune , Play Your Cards Right , Name That Tune , Supermarket Sweep , Telly Addicts , etc etc seem to have dsappeared from terrestrial telly altogether

Gameshows are no longer popular like they used to be in the 60s right through to the 90s. The reason is because now the most popular types of programmes are reality tv, docu-soaps and soap operas since they bring in the ratings and most importantly sponsors for much needed dosh. Gameshows now seem old fashioned in one way, but that is becuase the new ones don't bring anything new or lack the charm of the old ones so they will keep losing out. And anyway, would you believe a gameshow now with so many fixing scandals?
As for Bullseye, the old series is miles better than the new ones. The prizes are always the same for the new ones week in week out, but even if the old series were just as dodgy they at least had different stuff to win from the previous show.

Actually isn't it because he said "nigger" on the radio once by mistake? Pretty sure that was him. Stay out of the black and in the red, LOL!

They brought it back with Dave Spikey, but it wasn't the same.

I'm sure if you could somehow have a war between even just the names of "Jim Bowen" and "Dave Spikey", Jim would 1-credit it every time.

Ron Atkinson was the idiot who famously said n*gger during a broadcast, you didnt hear it in the UK but i think other countries got full commentary or something ?!?

The worst one was that stupid posh girl on Big Brother who said it a few years back, i know the words offensive of course but coming from her (very rich posh girl) who was trying to be 'street' was just plain embarassing as well.

Do miss Bullseye, some of the repeats are funny to watch when some contestants in the 80's have awful fashion sense but also seem to be happy with 40 pounds !

I saw Jim Bowen doing stand-up at the Brighton Festival in May this year....

He was hilarious! He basically spent an hour taking the censored out of Bullseye contestants. I was in the front row, he even included me in the show by asking "How long ago did Tommy Cooper die?".

I guessed 15 years but apparently it was nearer 20....hey-ho, at least he shook me hand.

Didn't get a Bendy Bully though.

I remember a good few of those up there, but the one that stands out if Catchphrase. It went downhill when they replaced the original presenter with someone who pronounced it differently (i.e. correctly). Also, they seemed to run out of actual catchphrases at exactly the same time and the quizzes could be utterly counterintuitive.

Not sure if it counts as a game show but but out of all the non-drama, non-docu stuff that's not on telly anymore, I miss The Crystal Maze the most. I remember we used to try and guess which contestants would do the best based on their real-life jobs.
It's called a MEGADRIVE
