Favorite zombie film?

Post by JackPainter » Sun Aug 10, 2008 11:29 pm

I'll admit it, I bloody love zombie films.

I'm a big fan of the Romero films and I really like Shaun of the Dead.

However, my vote goes to Braindead (or Dead Alive). Funny, stupidly violent and some has some of the greatest movie quotes ever - "I kick arse for the Lord!".

Hard to believe Peter Jackson made one of the goriest films ever.

So what do you consider your favorite zombie film?

PS - Yes, I'm watching Day of the Dead on BBC2. :D

28 days later is great. Although, its up to the viewer to decide weather they're actually zombies or not.

PS - The Evil Dead films DON'T count.

With 3 and 4, they are not exactly zombies but humans infected with a hyper extreme rage virus. They can still be killed normally like normal humans without just aiming for the brain, so technically they are still humans and not zombies.

The original Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead all the way for me.

Night is a damn intense movie that really uses its budgetry limitations and black & white photography to great effect. Seriously f**k you ending, too.

Dawn of the Dead is less oppressive, but definitely the most epic, intelligent and satirical of all zombie movies- some of the gore is really eyeboggling- even now. Certainly far more unpleasant than the tame, dumbass remake.

Honorable mentions go to Braindead and Day of the Dead- two great, gory, movies.

Dawn Of The Dead, the original although I thought the remake was entertaining enough.

Shawn Of the Dead

mainly, because its the only zombie movie ive ever watched and because of them using vinyl LP's as well as a mug tree and toaster as a weapon!!!

Braindead is very good and of course 28 days later. I really like the remake of Dawn of the Dead, thought that was very good.

Just done like Shaun of the Dead, its not bad but i'm not keen on comedy and also a lot of british films i hate to say !

Shame the last few Romero films have been pretty bad, Diary of the Dead i thought was very bad, same with Land of the Dead (specially with the stupid retarded type character, just ridiculous).

Dawn of the Dead (original) was also excellent

I've not seen Dairy of the Dead yet.

However, I like Land of the Dead a lot more than I liked Day.

Day of the Dead is a pretty bad film. Most of characters are unlikeable (although that makes their deaths much more satisfying), depressing throughout, awful 80's music and simply boring to watch.

Good makeup though. :D

Land of the Dead was ruined by bad CGI and awful dialogue - "There..just looking for somewhere to go."

Although, I thought it was entertaining and it did have some great scenes (the dead crossing the river).
