What new DS Game should I buy?

Post by rtrgrl78 » Sun Mar 16, 2008 7:59 pm

I got a lovely DS for Christmas this year after all the hints! I got with it:
Brain Training
Eye Training
42 Games in One
The Sims: Castaway

And I bought myself in February this year:
Mortal Kombat
Jam Sessions

Well, I turned 30, aherm yesterday and   and got some money and thought I mght get another DS game, as the others apart from The Sims: Castaway has not really got me gripped on the DS, and I want this machine to prove me wrong, I really really wanted one for a while as I thought I'd use it more than I have. Was thinking maybe: 'Sonic Adventure' (the 1st one), 'Mario Bros'/64' (help me which one is the best). Or Myst; but this has been slated, also have played 'Mario Kart' and wasn't really impressed.

Myst is garbage, unless you were a big fan of the PC version. Of the Mario stuff, New Super Mario Bros is way better than the 64 port. The Sonic games aren't all that (personally, I thought the GBA games were better, and even they were rubbish).

Elsewhere:

Zoo Keeper: my most-played DS title by some margin. Utterly addictive.
Honeycomb Beat: kind of limited, but a good brain-buster.
Kirby Canvas Curse: interesting take on platform games, despite totally lacking in freneticism.
Konami Classics: a fab collection of retro hits; the GBA compi is also aces.

Not:

The Settlers: totally broken.
New Zealand Story Revolution: just not worth the cash.
Boulder Dash Rock: like a rubbish version of Boulder Dash.
Namco Museum: moore proof that NAMCO HATES US ALL.
Elite Beat Agents: get Rhythm Tengoku instead—it's a million times better.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village. You will need to import from America, but can get it for £15. Best DS game in ages.

Puzzle Quest. Much better than it should be. One of Mrs Ant's most played DS games of the last few months
The Retro League - Where skill isn't an obstacle
Retrocanteen, home of the unfairly banned

I finished the quest after a few weeks of semi-gruelling gameplay, and I wonder how many others felt the same, that they completed the game out of a bizarre sense of duty, rather than because they were having fun. Certainly, it was a massive time-sink, but not a hugely fun one.

No, a black one but have seen the dark blue, that looks pretty smart, was shocked that my parents got me one, had been saying for ages that they looked pretty cool.

Agree. Best game I've played in a long time with brilliant graphics and soothing music. Quite easy to complete though.

I love the DS and I'm currently playing zelda. Its alright but I'm not a huge fan.
WANTED: Amiga CD32 games. PM me. :)

Ha, well I just kind of slipped that in there, and hoped no-one would notice it am well old now, officially !, I still get asked for ID scarily enough at Supermarkets for being over 21 . Seriously don't feel old, but do moan a lot; sign of me ageing  oddly had a quiet-ish night out round Manchester, but it is well known for being bit rough. In the word of the Killers its 'Glamourous Indie Rock and Roll' for me.
