Kickstarter tracker
The forum, and subsequently the magazine too - could do with a Kickstarter tracker that reports on retro campaigns that you don't want to miss out on. Many now can be jumped in on after a successful campaign too.
Right now I have backed "Retro Format" and "8-bit wars", and preivously there was an Australian 'annual' effort that failed that I by pure accident came accross (I hope they try again).
Such a shame to miss out on something or not see it succeed due to not getting the word around.
EDIT: 2020-10-22 Retro Format #1 + #2 arrived last week.

Re: Kickstarter tracker
Unfortunately I don't think it would be good for the magazine to do.
Kickstarters can be risky, and there would be a backlash against the mag if one it had endorsed failed.

Re: Kickstarter tracker
This is a project I backed (my first on Indiegogo):
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-crackers--3#/
It's about the crack scene on the Atari ST.
And, in response to merman's concern over a backlash, I personally wouldn't blame RG for a failed KS project or any items I purchase on their recommendation that I dislike (there haven't been any and I can't thank the RG team enough for all the things they've brought to my attention over the years). I buy RG to keep informed about new developments and information about KS or Indiegogo projects should be a part of that - I'll decide for myself if I'm prepared to take the risk or not and the responsibility for that choice is mine and mine alone.

Re: Kickstarter tracker
I agree with that. I think RG should be pointing us towards Kickstarters/Indiegogo etc. Just put a disclaimer in there somewhere and it may help push a project into funding.
I've had a couple of Kickstarters reach their goal but fail to arrive - and I am mighty pished off about it, but even if I'd heard about them from RG I couldn't exactly blame them for my loss of money!!!

Re: Kickstarter tracker
Yeah i cant see how you can blame RG if you do go for one and it fails. No one sues people on a forum if they post a kickstarter and people go for it.
Also on Facebook Retro Gamer posted a kickstarter link to a new retro book (without any disclaimers etc). Think we have to stop worrying so much

Re: Kickstarter tracker
The mag promotes all sorts of things to buy, I don't see pointing at a crowd funded thing to be any different. As long as it's reported as "here's an interesting thing" as opposed to "we think you should throw money at this", there's no problem. It's just RG reporting on relevant topics as always.

Re: Kickstarter tracker
I quite like the idea.
Particularly in regards to books and the like, Fusion for example are incredibly reliable. I can understand the worry, most notorious is the Vega+, Gamegadget and the ongoing Atari VCS, but as long as buyer beware is emphasised- it is an individual responsibility as to whether you want to join in or not.
