Yes thank you Merman.

I've decided to scan these myself (or through Mort... haven't asked him yet) and then hopefully pass them on to your good selves to do an article.

I'll be in touch although it's likely to be later rather than sooner.

Thanks again.

I used to have them all until I sold my complete Speccy set-up to a friend-of-a-friend back in 1992. I bought it back 12 months later but all G-X and Crash mags had been destroyed! And plenty of great games swapped for crud. Sooooo annoyed.

G-X wasn't a bad little read but did not in any way compare to either Crash or Amiga Power.

I've also got the complete set (plus the Preview issue). It was a novel way of thinking at the time - a weekly video games magazine - and that, in part, was probably it's downfall. Perhaps it was too forward thinking for it's time and that's why it folded within a year.

I'd agree with the original point that information on the existence of Games-X is like gold dust - for whatever reason that is.

A quality magazine though and one which i'll probably always refuse to part with for nostalgia's sake!

If I recall, it was only meant to run for a year due to contract?

I have a few of these still somewhere I think.

Bought them mainly for the disks, but found them very readable time and time again. Just was a fun lil magazine.

It was diabolical. Suffered the same problem that C+VG of the same era had. "Oooh, shiny graphics, we'll give it high marks" syndrome. From memory there was no coverage of the Speccy or CPC either which kind says it all.

It closed after a year, I was surprised it lasted that long.

They simply saw what Future were doing with New Computer Express and thought they could emulate it, except for games.

Problem was, NCE wasn't the kind of success it looked like as was proved not that long after Games X closed.

Has anyone picked up this story?

Been speaking to a developer who previously worked on this magazine so let me know either way!

Hell, might even like to contribute presuming nobody already snagged my contact

I've still got the complete collection. Simply haven't had the time to do anything with them yet.

I'm hopefully upgrading my scanner shortly and I'll try to upload a sample from issue one shortly (that's if anyone is still interested).

Cheers. :)

Holy thread resurrection, Batman!

I've been going through my retro stuff with a view to selling some of it... I need a bit of a clearout. I decided the magazines should go... they're mostly ZZAP! 64s, although there are a few others in there too. One of the things I found in the pile was the preview issue of Games-X. I thought I'd search the forum for anything on it, and lo and behold, here we are! It seems to have ended unresolved though... did anything come of this in the end?

I have been after a set of Games-X mags forever now. Even scans will do, I loved this mag back in the day and really want to read it again.

I've got myself a decent scanner now and still got all the issues...

Any cheap online hosting advice? What are the rules on copyright for this sort of thing?

Thanks.

what about getting in touch with certain websites like 'Out Of Print' - they have some old mags scanned for posterity. I dont think there would be much of a 'legal issue' really as there is no profit being made now from the name of 'Games X'.
Basically, i just want to have access to ever single issue, so please get them scanned and uploaded somewhere. I loved this magazine back in the day, and is kind of my 'holy grail' of old school mags.
