Super Mario Kart (SNES) Time Trial UK and World Record Vids

Post by SamiCetinSMK » Mon Feb 21, 2011 12:09 pm

Hello all,

Just thought id share some bits in topic here if theres anything interesting I hit over the course of the year.

I was doing some Vanilla Lake 2 PAL Time Trial demonstrations at Matt Brown's last Aldershot Retro event, trying to use the very hard steep island jump strategy which I had not perfected before. I had 51 seconds via the old method and finally managed to get right to do 48 seconds which was a new UK Record at #2 in the World.

Heres the vid:

If there are any tracks in particular you would like to see how they are driven at peak please let me know, i will post any others i make over time.

Regards,

Cheers mate, havent done yet, i should probably collect a lot of videos for later and submit them to see. I have mentioned to them that i would like to drive live with them watching some day at an event.

The database for Super Mario Kart on Twingalaxies is still pretty small, I did arrange with them about 11 years ago to use the data from our time trial world rankings as a joint project but it seems this never lifted off. I met Walter Day in 2005 when he visited London and did briefly discuss again with him and a few colleagues of his but again i think they were busy working on a lot of other projects so this was put on hold. There is a very extensive collection of records and videos from around the world on the Time Trial World rankings for SMK and we are always affiliated with Twingalaxies and happy to help out with any events or projects they may have.

In the meantime, i was working on the next track, Vanilla Lake 1 which involves some more snow sliding, with a UK record on the course time, going under 50 seconds and a World Record tie on the best lap:

Vanilla Lake 1 PAL Course UK Record: 0'49"94

Vanilla Lake 1 fastlap World Record tie (PAL): 0'09"57**

Will let you know when i do any others :)

That was an incredible run, well done mate!
My personal best is no where near that and i thought i was handy!
My best time of Ghost Valley is in the low 1:13:xx region, a bit off the record i know, but i wouldn't mind seeing your time.
Congratz again

Hi man, much appreciated. You should join us on the Time Trial World Rankings, we have lots of players of all skill levels (Champions to first time players).

I haven't improved Ghost Valley 1 in a long time but i will go back there at some stage (we hit 1'07"s without the platform jump and if 5/5 platform jump is done, very hard records are down to 1'01". Anyway I did coincidentally play another Ghost Valley track recently, it took a while to work on but I edged out a World Record by 0.02 secs :

Ghost Valley 3 PAL World Record: 1'14"66*

Il probably try and improve the fastlap a bit more next before moving to another track.
