Yethboth's EXCELLENT Retro Classics:

Post by yethboth » Fri Jun 20, 2008 5:30 pm

No 4: Tiger Road:

I remember playing this game back in the arcades when I was 10 back in 1990. The game was made in 1987 but did not get released until 1988. This game came out on all formats. I remember when I was 8 and I received my new copy of Sinclair User for that particular month, the first page I turned over to was this advert:

I remember I got really excited by this game, but never got the chance to play it in the arcades until two years later. The speccy version followed that same year in my possesion as well.

Tiger Road is a challenging platform hack 'em up and is recommended.

Well the pictures work this week but does anyone really care what games you think are classics, week after week? Putting your own name in the thread title is rather self important isn't it?

Picked up the PCB for a few pennies after rummagaing round the back storeroom of a local arcade - have always like it a lot - it's like a kung-fu Ghost's n Goblins.

I really like the arcade version but didn't think it was that hot on the Speccy (I bought it at full price back in the day too) I've played far worse conversions though.

This is one of those games I could never get very far with and yeah the Speccy version wasn't up to much.

Must refresh memory via MAME :)

So why waste your time posting in this thread then???

Anyway, classic game this one, although I found it very hard.....I shall be digging out my Capcom Classics collection for a go in HD!!(kind of!)

Nope, for me it's not a classic... difficulty level is set too high, extra weapons are naff and it's too repetitive.

Never rated this game myself, had it for the C64 back in the day and also found it too much of a slog. Played the original arcade version afterwards and still didn't enjoy it much.

No 5: St Dragon

This is a really good shoot em'up. I've got the Arcade version of this on my PC and I've also played the Spectrum 128K version as well. The music in this game is superb. Graphics wise it is pretty good. Gameplay wise, it is frustratingly difficult at times:
