Iron Man on PS2/Wii/PS3/XBox 360

Post by yethboth » Tue May 06, 2008 4:15 pm

A quick question reference the Iron Man game that has just very recently been released, what is the graphical difference between the PS2 and Wii version? Does the Wii version have better graphics or is it just a straight PS2 port and basically exactly the same as the PS2 version?

Also, is there a graphical difference between the PS3 and XBox 360 version or are they both exactly the same?

Thanks.

Read the review and then forget they ever made an Iron Man game.

Regardless of the graphics or any other differences, the game is censored.

Sadly.

Another fine example of all graphics and no fun.

Too many new games are like this, and that's why I mostly play retro.

IGN review of the DS version: http://uk.ds.ign.com/articles/871/871724p1.html
IGN wrote:The game is a very action-packed design inspired by the recent influx of Robotron-inspired "move in one direction, shoot in another" blasters. Players move Iron Man using the D-pad of the Nintendo DS, and shoot in 360 fashion by sliding the stylus around on the touch-screen.
Sounds like it might be vaguely like Geometry Wars Galaxies, therefore: SOLD. :D

Unless it doesn't have a scoring system or high score table, in which case it can sod off. :x

EDIT: The IGN review was talking bollocks about the bottom screen not being used for much: http://youtube.com/watch?v=CADZFWy4ldk

I actually liked the 360 demo quite a bit, it was by no means the greatest game to be released this year but it seems much better than what I thought it would end up being.

The Xbox 360 version though has different levels to the PS2 version which is pretty much a completely different game, and I'm pretty sure there are a few villians that only appear in the PS2 one and not the Xbox 360 and vice versa.

Then again I'm a huge fan of the comic so I'll wind up at least playing each different version once to see what they are like.

I love the comic too, but the demo did little to inspire me, absolute gash imo, I cant really see anyone enjoying it.

i knew this would stink when wandering round Selfridges looking for GTA4...every single game was full RRP except this on 360 which was 30 quid. Even the steelbook was 35!

was hoping it would be poo but enjoyable like Transformers...off to see the film tonight.

I got the DS version this afternoon, and I can confirm that it's actually quite good.
The on foot sections are a bit crap because apparently Iron Man's main weapon only works when he walks very VERY slowly, even though he can fly perfectly well while firing it in the outdoor levels. The normal levels are great though; a bit like Desert Strike, but with Geometry Wars's control system. The weapons are a bit on the weak side to begin with, but the upgrades make a massive difference to their power after the first couple of levels and then it starts feeling like a proper shooter. :D
To sum up, as far as 2D shooters on the DS go, Iron Man is still nowhere near as good as Geometry Wars Galaxies, but way, way WAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better than Nanostray.

Thanks for the impressions, I quite like the strike series and was wanting another shooter on my DS.

Hmmm the story mode's a bit on the short side, but finishing it unlocked One Man Army mode, so we'll see how that goes.

Incidentally, the story mode has three difficulty levels, the top two of which look like they were designed with gaming masochists in mind. I might give those a try tomorrow.

Wow, I wonder whether thats the PS2 or PSP version. Still looks quite poor for a game either way. I wonder what the Wii version looks like.

Absolutely. I think we are almost unanimous in praise for the film.
