Best music in a game

Post by koopa42 » Sat Mar 25, 2006 10:46 am

OK so nicked from the nightmare creatures thread. I mean best actual music, not sound effect or game music, you know actual musician music in a game.

My fave has to be the wipeout games, prodigy (my fave EVER) chemical brothers etc - what more could you want?

so whats yours

*chuckles* I think my taste in ingame music differs wildly from yours.

The music in the Wipeout series of games ranks as one of the only soundtracks in a game I've turned off. I'm just not into 'um-chit, um-chit, beep, beep' stuff.

Each to their own though. It'd be a dull place if we all liked the same stuff.

My favourite soundtrack has to be the Amiga version of 'Turrican 2'. It's Chris Huelsbeck at his finest. Special mention must also go to the Amiga version of 'Shadow of The Beast'.

Here's where you reply and tell me the stuff I like is horrible etc ;)

Well for me it was either the C64 version of Dragon's Lair Pt. 2: Escape From Singe's Castle... each level's music was perfectly composed by the legendary Rob Hubbard, or more recently Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on the PC, with it's superb 80's music, and customisable MP3 Player!!

Either loading music from Sanxion (C64) or loading music from Mutants (C64). I was also always partial to the sultry tones of the original PS1 verison on Tomb Raider.

Okay Chris Hulsbeck stuff is superb (Why haven't we read more about him in RG?).

Also the Imagine loading screen is superb (sevaral variations I know but generally a stunning tune).

Final Fantasy stuff is always superb - The intro to Kindom hearts (Drive into the heart especially).

Then the alltime classics - Xenon 2, Lotus 2 (the chik chik chik ah one) Magic Pockets and lets not forget Outrun.

Yep - I read that also.......

But I have a HUGE amount of trouble saying what ones I like! I prefer comupter music in my computer games - not all this bollox rap crap

Suppose Bomb the Base in Xennon2 megablast was good back in the day - but thats about it!

Nobody said Sonic R yet? :D

I'll be damned if I know who it is though.

I love Harry Greyson Williams music throughout MGS2 Sons of Liberty.
Really adds to the atmosphere created throughout the game.

The orchestral score from the Independence War series has long been one thats stuck with me. Must try Edge of Chaos on my new gfx card...

It may be twee midi versions... but you can't go wrong with the classic-rock loaded soundtrack to Rock N Roll Racing on the SNES. Born to Be Wild, Paranoid, Highway Star, Peter Gunn... the music in that game was every bit as important to the game's enjoyment as the addictive gameplay and manic commentry.

Yep, love that soundtrack, and it's pretty impressive for the SNES.

I'm quite partial to the rock soundtracks for "Road Rash 3D" and "Road Rash : Jail Break" on the PS1.

Also, the Machinae Supremacy soundtrack to Jets'n'Guns on the PC kicks butt... "real" music trying to sound like "game" music for a change!
GAME OVER YEEEAAAHHH!
