3DO Games :)

Post by RetroKingSimon » Sat Apr 05, 2008 3:51 pm

Hello. :) This is mainly a question for Will2097 really, but I didn't just PM him as I thought it might provoke an interesting discussion (well, I hope so :|). Anyway, many people aren't overly familiar with any but the most famous 3DO games. I own the games listed below and was wondering what Will and others think of them. Are they generally regarded among the system's best? There are a few in my collection that I've never seen mentioned here, or indeed anywhere else, so I'm interested in how they're regarded. :) Also, what games that I don't have are worth me tracking down? Ones that don't cost a bomb, ideally! :P Anyway, sorry if this is a boring thread but I hope it becomes the opposite and encourages some people to check out games they otherwise might not have and does the same for me! :)

Star Control 2 (my favourite game of all-time)
Star Fighter
Captain Quazar
Killing Time
Return Fire (with Maps O' Death level disc)
Need For Speed
Road Rash
Phoenix 3
John Madden Football
Super Street Figher 2 Turbo
Theme Park
Pataank
Battle Sport
Gex
Cannon Fodder
Star Blade
Samurai Shodown
Off-World Interceptor
PGA Tour '96

:) :) :) :) :)

Hello Mate,

That's not a bad list you have there actually. You have three types missing however. Easy to get hold of, and hard to get hold of and ones you may want to double check before parting with your cash.

Easy ones you should get:

Wing Commander III.
Power Kingdoms. (be careful, region protected, US version is called Guardian War)
Casper (also region protected, don't by the US version!)
D.
Alone in the Dark.
Another World. (The bestest version available!)
Wolfenstein. (Better than the original Mac version so I'm told! 3DO Doom is rubbish, if you like FPS' you have the best, Killing Time, but PO'ed is worth a punt!)
The Horde.
Space Hulk.
Shock wave II
Jammit.

Harder to get hold of ones, but worth the effort.

Dr Hauzer (Japan only)
Tiaketsu Rooms (Japan only)
yu yu hashuko (Japan Only)
The Tower. (Japan Only)
Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon. (Japan only, a few copies kicking about mind you!)

Be careful ones:

Snow Job (point n' click FMV game)
Autobahn Tokio. (Japan Only)
Pyramid Intruder. (Japan Only)
Strahl. (US/Japan only, I believe)
Slayer.
Shockwave 1 and add-on disk.
Novastorm (On other platforms it was called Scavenger 4, common as dog muck mind you. I love it for the music and scenery, it's the best shooter on the platform too. Which is a sorry endorsement!)

Good luck!

Way Of The Warrior and Immercernary are very good 3DO games, And ground Zero Texas was pretty smart at the time, Solar Eclipse is definately worth a look as is the best home version of Namco's Star Blade. Fifa is definately worth some time too, if only to see the genos of todays football games.
Just where is Mickey T?

Um. Sorry. But... Ground Zero was only on MegaCD, it wasn't on the 3DO, and Total Eclipse (not solar) is actually very good like you say. It was the launch title for the FZ1 in the UK. Fifa on the 3DO is actually very very good.

The PAL Version of Samurai Shodown is a tragic flickery big-black-bordered 17% slower traversity of a game compared to the glistening wonder that is the NTSC version.

Loved The Horde & Battlesport on two player is awesome.

Killing Time is one of my favourite FPS, really scary too.
"Conan, what is best in life?"

"Crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentation of their women."
