Salamander (which is pretty much an amazing conversion, best shmup on C64 I reckon)
Flying Shark
Narc (Way better than the Amiga version)
The Train
Renegade
Samurai Warrior
Spore
Warhawk
Batman: The Movie
I Ball
Skate or Die

That's some (slightly) lesser known classics not usually talked about or often brought up in peoples top 5.

i am absolutely amazed that only one other person recommended Paradroid! One of the greatest games ever...

Other than that add my votes to:

Impossible Mission
Wizball
Head Over Heels

And for my original suggestions (at least i think no one else mentioned these):

Archon

and Wasteland - all-time greatest RPG ever!

Heavy Stylus said that he didn't want the usual suspects mentioned, so that would be why.

You've missed out on a lot mate, get emulating it! There's nothing out there that feels quite like C64 games.

The RetroKing has never played a c64 game?

Methinks the 'King' needs to relinquish his crown!

Maybe! :P

But I didn't give myself the name ;)

I was always a Speccy fanatic and then moved onto consoles. I've never really gotten around to playing any C64 stuff, I guess I've stuck with systems that are familiar

I'll use this thread as inspiration to change that though :)

In my case, I specifically wasn't repeating games that had already been mentioned, and was trying to stay away from the most obvious ones. Paradroid regularly tops best-of polls and so is hardly obscure.

I used to love that game. It gets really tough later, though, as you probably recall.

I'll do to you what I did to Sterner once - blew him (and the front half of his house) up with a rocket launcher ;)

Ok so most of mine did fit into that...but didn't realise Wasteland was a 'usual suspect'...in fact, i've never heard ANYBODY else discuss it :P

Get Wasteland!

Totally forgot about that game. Used to play a load of C64 games when I worked at an indie and this one was on the rotation for quite a while.
mikeb wrote:FireTrack I really liked this 'Star Force'-styled shooter from Frak! creator 'Orlando'. At the time I worked at an IT company that serviced Electric Dream's PCs so managed to blag a free copy :)
The amazing thing about this game is that the soundtrack actually sounds better on the BBC (click). I also thought about doing a cover for it on the Gameboy, but didn't get further than the first few bars so far.
