Any Castlevania game, especially 3, 4 and X all have great first level music (as well as overal amazing music)
Turrican 1, 2 and 3 also have amazing Level 1 musics, with number 2 having the best. It really sets up for an amazing game! ditto with Metal Slug 1-3 and the Contra series.

I really like
R-Type
Streets Of Rage
Sonic
Super Mario (Game Boy)
Bubble Bobble
Sorry, but I just like it!
Good question this, as game music can really add to a game, or indeed if it's bad detract from the game.

Press Play On Tape
Panzer Dragoon Zwei had a real quality first stage tune, really moody with a great atmosphere which really shew up the other consoles at the time.

I can see what your saying Sir Clive, but for some people, myself included, if a game has a particularly good piece of music on the first level, you do tend to remember the music, and more so the game because of!SirClive wrote:I really don't get narrowing a question down like that. Surely 'best ingame music' would generate more discussion.
But ill sit on the fence and say "I can understand both sides of the argument here......"
