Greatest first level music

R-Type's is great very iconic, I also like the first level music of Ghouls and Ghosts with the Super version being different enough to be enjoyable too

Any Castlevania game, especially 3, 4 and X all have great first level music (as well as overal amazing music)
Turrican 1, 2 and 3 also have amazing Level 1 musics, with number 2 having the best. It really sets up for an amazing game! ditto with Metal Slug 1-3 and the Contra series.

Good question this, as game music can really add to a game, or indeed if it's bad detract from the game.

Panzer Dragoon Zwei had a real quality first stage tune, really moody with a great atmosphere which really shew up the other consoles at the time.

NiGHTS also had an excellent 1st stage tune (all of them were great though), it was just so happy happy happy, joy joy joy!! and to this day holds some beautiful memories for me playing that game for the first time!

I really don't get narrowing a question down like that. Surely 'best ingame music' would generate more discussion.

So my answer... I have no idea. I don't particularly remember which level the music comes from, just the game.

I can see what your saying Sir Clive, but for some people, myself included, if a game has a particularly good piece of music on the first level, you do tend to remember the music, and more so the game because of!

But ill sit on the fence and say "I can understand both sides of the argument here......"
