If you could pick only one console to own and enjoy for the rest of your life, which would it be and why?
I would probably pick Sega Saturn, simply because it has the greatest joypad ever devised and a stunning catalogue of hardcore games. I can safely say if I only owned a Saturn, I would be a happy gamer till the day I died!
You?

It would probably be Xbox 360 for me. Great modern grames, great live arcade, great online play.
But if it was retro then Speccy all the way.

The PSP is doing it for me. All the fun of the PS2, but on the move.
I've also got more retro compilations for it than is reasonable or healthy.
Retrowise, I'd quite like to have my C64 back. Unfortunately it died a horrible death when the transformer went funny...

360 for me too.
Love the community side of it. Love the games. It isnt just because its in HD or anything. It all just works great for co-op online stuff.
If I had to go retro, it's a toss up between the N64 or the Amiga.

Have you got your psp modded so you can in fact play ps1 games? I'm really quite interested in all this. I used to own a GP2x and although it was good it didn't have the raw power unfortunately to handle some of the more desired platforms.

I had a long think about this one. My heart says Saturn as it's my favourite machine, but in reality I'd go for PS2 simply because of the sheer amount of games for both it and PS1. It wouldn't matter that 80% of them are mediocre, generic and uninspred - it would be a lifelong challenge just collecting/owning all of them.
Thoughts and prayers.

Am I allowed to take backwards compatibility into consideration when choosing? If so, the decision would end up on a PS2. The grand library of PS1 AND PS2 games makes it the best console on the planet.

Yeah of course, whatever a particular console can do is fine. I didn't include my modded xbox as I feel that is cheating. It isn't what MS intended their console to be like, and it's like choosing the pc just because it has a stack load of emulators.
PS2 is a fine choice however, there really is quite the library of great games spread between PS1/2.
One question I do have for the people who are choosing 360, is it because of the current gen of games on that machine, or the Live Arcade function that is making it your top choice?

No any old computer is fine, does that mean you would take the c64 over the SNES then?

Well if computers count i'll 'ave a C128D with 64K VDC RAM, Retro Replay, RRNet, couple of 1541 disk drives, boosted PSU, 1084S and a SuperCPU with 16Mb of RAM for good measure. Tens of thousands of games out there for C64 mode, a few more for the C128 side, Metal Dust for the SuperCPU-enhanced machine and, with a bit of getting back into working with my own mod of Zeus 64 Assembler natively again, i can write my own if i get bored...
Actually... is it specifically one unit or can i have multiples of the same machine?

3-way tie between the Master System, SNES and Game Boy B/W.
