That's a game I didn't recognise at all, but now you've given us the title I remember playing the shareware version on the office PCs at a former employer during lunch breaks. Not half bad if I remember it rightly.

Can't remember what level it was, but it was a pig. Never could work out exactly how to do it.

I seem to remember it was just a matter of timing, hit the fire button when the axe is in the same place to chop your way through the wood, sounds simple but in practice!
