Favourite game over/highscore music?

Post by MRMIdAS » Tue Nov 20, 2007 7:38 am

I've always been partial to bubble bobble's game over tune with the "todays best" level counter.

Oh, and hawkeye on the C64.

Super Hang-On (MD) has a great high-score tune, starts off in a cheap 'n' cheerful Bontempi style, then becomes a bit more lounge-jazz as you enter your initials.

Thunderforce IV has THREE (count 'em) high-score tunes! One for the demo mode/if you didn't make it up there, one if you came second or below, and one if you were ranked 'ACE'. The opulence!

You can move the stars about in the background while you tap your rude name in too.

Didn't Miner 2049er (Atari 8-bit) just have a loud phasing bass note for the high scores?

The Wizball game over guitar riff.

Ironically, my least favourite is also by Martin Galway and from a Sensible Software game - the game over music in Parallax seems to be taunting you, saying "You weren't good enough". A similar "classic" is the ending of Phantoms of the Asteroid, but that was Rob Hubbard.

GAME OVER YEAHHHHHH!

How has nobody mentioned that yet? :P

Off the top of my head, I also like the Wiz 'N' Liz score entry music and SF2's defeat/continue tunes are obvious classics. Out Run's game over music is also good, as pointed out by SirC.

Oh and Punch Out!!'s too.

Super Monaco GP's is great too, it's like lying in your garden on a hot summer's day.

What about Daytona USA's music which rang out through the arcades?
I have got to put that in my car for the sheer bemused look on peoples faces

Very fond of Hang-on's hi score music. In fact all of the music from that game is great.

I considered Green Beret (C64) , but the winner has to be Monty on the Run (C64) - it's so sad
