Yeah, it's much easier to pick-up than the parrying system, but is more about continueing your attack. It makes the gameplay much more aggressive. I didn't quite figure out the full rules of the focus attack even though it was being explained to me. It defo works in the 3 levels as I said before, and you can use it as a parry of sorts - if someone throws a fireball and you press focus just as it hits you, you will 'parry' the fireball.

Which reminds me actually - what happens when you get hit during the focus (think at levels 1 and 2 of charge only, there is no level indicator for the move by the way) is you do actually lose energy, but the energy you lose will regenerate as long as you don't get hit while it's coming back. So you will lose a round if you energy goes right below zero, but if it doesn't you can gain some back over a short period of time. Oh and the focus attack uses some of your super bar.

If you imagine your opponent throws a fireball at you - press focus just before it hits (as long as you are in focus it's ok - the timing isn't as extreme as parrying) and you will lose a bit of energy but that energy can all be gain back if you don't get hit again. If you get hit, you lose the energy from being hit by a fireball, plus what ever you are hit with next.

However, if your opponent has ex'ed the fireball (thrown it and press 2 punch buttons to make a level 2 fireball - uses a block of superbar) and you try to focus-parry it, the level 1 bit of the fireball will be stopped, but then it will hit with the second level. So you cant do what you could in SF3 and do loads in a row to parry attacks that hit more than once, it doesn't work like that.

If that doesn't make sense it cos I just typed as I was thinking :)

Now that SF4 has been in Japanese arcades for a few weeks videos have begun appearing on Youtube showing off a few of the alternate outfits available in the game.

Ryu now fights shirtless

My favourite, Zangief dressed up like Mike Haggar from Final Fight

Chun Li's alt, as seen before is her chinese dress

Lastly, Guile is wearing the same type of jacket and jeans that Charlie from Street Fighter Alpha wore.

Not shown is Blanka, whose alternate outfit has him dressed up a bit like Indianna Jones.

I found this one on Capcom USA's forum which shows what I think is a battle damaged Super Turbo Bison:

I've nothing new to add, I just wanted to say SFIV is now officially my number 1 most wanted game maybe ever.

The alternate costumes are just genius. Plus I have one of the quotes in Games TM this month haha.

It's soooooo good. Arghhhh I want it now.

After playing the old games the whole weekend, I'm hyped ten times more about it. Hopefully the console ports aren't too far away...
The arcade cab is beyond my funds I fear :D

Just spent a few days in Osaka and managed to have a few goes on an SFIV cab out there. Most of the players were already much better than me but I did manage to win a round against one Japanese guy.

I was Sagat, he was Ryu, and he kept trying to do some sort of charged move on me so I would jump over him or hop back and get a few hits in after he inevitably missed. Good times. It's very much like SFII in that you can totally read your opponent and adjust to their behavior.

You should have seen his face after I won that round. It was a look of total shock, as though he couldn't believe he'd been beaten by a Gaijin. Needless to say he redoubled his efforts and pounded me in the next round. :D

Great game. I really, really, cannot wait for the 360 version.

Thanks for the impressions, makes me want to play the game even more.
Capcom has also rumoured that they will reveal a big SF4 secret today, and these pictures have just turned up on their official webpage:

Yeah. Apparently Akuma crops up randomly in the single player mode if the coin-op detects a skilled player.

The first picture looks like it might be Gouken, though it might just be Akuma, I guess.

I'm still hoping for Gouken to show up, just be cool to fight him for once.
This has turned up on youtube, really hard to make out but it does show off a few of Akumas moves:

http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=tK6NDUm22k4

Capcoms official site has also been updated again to show Akuma on the front page, and is also now added to the characters page. The Gallery has also been updated with a new Video - Abel Vs Guile.

http://www.capcom.co.jp/sf4/ac1.html

I know I've said this several times before, but I really love the graphics style that is used in this game. It really does make it look fantastic in my opinion. Its just to bad the game is rumoured for a Feb 09 release date for consoles (so far away :( )

Edit - Here is a much better Akuma fight:

http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=gXIDkSdhxi4

His intro is really awesome , and he even gets his original theme remixed for the battle. Seemed rather tame though, Akuma always seemed like a tough git to KO but he went down without to much trouble in the vid. Awesome none the less!

New interview with the SF4 producer at Lepzig, a few interesting snippets of information below:

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3169458

On new characters:

1UP: How about the new characters for the console version...have you figured them all out yet?

YO: As you know we allowed people to vote on which character they most wanted to see in the console version and Cammy won, so she's definitely in the game. We have a rough version of her already up and running. Akuma came in second or third and we've already included him in the arcade game. Figuring out the right number of characters is a lot like chess. You need to know the rules well, and things need to be balanced properly. We'll see what we ultimately end up with.

And on Gouken (Sheng Long):

1UP: How about Shen Long? [Ed's note: Capcom has hinted that the famous EGM April Fools joke character is actually in the game]

YO: Are you coming to the Tokyo Game Show? How about you ask me that question again then. [Smiles]

So Cammy is in for sure according to the above, and Dan and Fei Long are also apparantly turning up in the console version. Expect Akuma and Seth to be playable on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions (like Gill was playable on the home SFIII ports). Could Gouken be reveiled at the Tokyo Games Show? Here's hoping :D
