Superb though it is as a multiplayer experience, Wii Sports is barely even a game, it's a glorified tech demo.

I don't agree with that. I've given Wii Sports Tennis many, many hours of play in singleplayer over several months and still enjoy it thoroughly. It may not have great finesse to its control or have a great deal of depth to it, but its still a lot of fun in short bursts.Dudley wrote:Superb though it is as a multiplayer experience, Wii Sports is barely even a game, it's a glorified tech demo.
The rest of the package may not hold so much interest in solo mode, but Tennis does it for me. Now if Sega would just sort out a proper Virtua adaptation I'd be well chuffed. Perhaps Table Tennis will take the crown.

These are some really bizarre choices. I had to pick Driver because of how influential it has become -- it's a major influence on GTA 3 and Crazy Taxi (two games that actually deserve to be on that list).
I certainly wouldn't pick Sonic 3 over Sonic 2...

One toot on this whistle will send you to a far away land!
I picked 'Unreal Tournament', because it is the best unreal game and was very influential in the development of subsiquent FPS games.
It was, still is, a decent game. It's not it's fault that the market is now flooded with way too much re-skinned FPS drones!
None of these titles deserve the 'best game ever' title though, IMO

Unreal Tournament - Never played it, and like many listed here, it's not retro (though, I'm not sure if that matters)
Pirates - I've never played it for more than 10 minutes.
Wii Sports - Never Played it.
Super Mario Kart - It has Mario in it, so is automatically crap. XTreme Racing on the Amiga was probably 1000 times better, as you could make your own tracks (and GFX/SFX), and it didn't have Mario spoiling it.
Guitar Hero - Excellent, but I don't it think deserves my vote at this time.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2 - Never played it.
Sonic The Hedgehog 3 - Never played it, but I recently played Sonic 1, and didn't like it at all.
F1 Gp2 - I loved F1GP on the Amiga, but I haven't played the second one.
Driver - Loved this, but it did have some very annoying problems.
Paradroid - Predictably, this got my vote. Absolute classic, and when we recently played it on the Retro League, I enjoyed it as much (or more) than when I bought it back in the day.
