Missing the point

Any games played where you've completely missed the point of what you're meant to be doing?

One to start you off: I never actually knew that Skool Daze had an aim. Maybe it was because I only ever had it on a C90 and never on an original cassette. I just thought you had to get to the end of the school day without incurring too many lines. I kept wondering why I kept ending up going to lunch several times during the day.

Just seemed to be a bunch of crazy sprites flying around the screen, didn't know what was going on and after 30 secs I didn't want to know.

I never understood the point of the light and medium kick and punch buttons in Street Fighter style games.

I know what you mean! when I got Street Fighter Alpha 3 I only really used the Heavy attacks, it was only when I started learning to combo properly did I get the point as light attacks are great ways to follow through to bigger combos.

I never really got the point of collecting all of the upgrades in any Metroid game knowing as soon as I started the next one I would have to start from square 1 again!

I don't understand half of the games on the 2600. I thought this would be a great idea for a game show, where you race against other players to determine the objective of the game. If you guess the theme of the game you get double points.

contestant: 'Ok... lessseee here.. there's a yellow bar that moves back and forth at the bottom of the screen. a white square on the right. A number in the upper left hand corner. An orange dot keeps bouncing around. Oh I get it.. if you bounce the orange square towards the white box the number goes up by two. That's your score!'

host: 'Correct! You get 100 points and advance to the final round. But you missed the bonus points, the game is 'Basketball'.

I didn't realise you can launch the Force Pod in the R-Type games until about 2 years ago.
When I was younger I must have spent hours of my life trying to kill the level 1 boss with the charge beam before it squashed my ship. Of course, I never succeded.
