Best 8 or 16 bit Budget Game
What is your favourite 8 or 16 bit budget game? (And I'm not talking about re-releases)
Quite oftern as a kid it was a choice between getting a Firebird or Mastertronic title at £1.99 a week , or saving up for a month to get the full price titles.
Many were instantly forgettable , but titles like Booty , The Last V8 , Finders Keepers/Magic Knight series , Dizzy , The Wild Bunch , Feud and Action Biker - to name but a few - were better than the more expensive arcade conversions or licenced games
Although by the time of the 16 bit market , budget games tended to be re-released full price titles , there were still a few notable original budget games with ttles like Arcade Pool , Alien Breed Special Edition , Rockstar Ate My Hamster , and one of my favourites the 'Middle East Simulator' Conflict
Which game did YOU think gave you the maximum enjoyment ,'whilst still leaving some cash in your pocket?

i really loved "rescue" by mastertronic, it was somewhat like gauntlet except set in space, where you go around shooting space pirates and rescuing scientists

Absolutely - I did mention that in my first post (although perhaps should have been put in the topic headline)Celebaglar wrote:I think it's only a fair thread if it excludes re-releases of originally full-priced games.
What we're talking about here are games deemed not worthy of a 'full price' release , yet were much better value than the publisher bargained for

I wonder if they were any decent (or even half decent) full price games that DIDN'T get re-released on budget lables , or be given away free by mags?
Obviously games like Shadow Of The Unicorn , which required a RAM pack didn't , but I guess not many others
Come to think of it , I don't think Elite got a budget release?

I should think there are quite a few. Many got included in some compilation or other, or stuffed onto magazine cover tapes in later years, but didn't actually get an individual budget release.paranoid marvin wrote:I wonder if they were any decent (or even half decent) full price games that DIDN'T get re-released on budget lables , or be given away free by mags?
