Are we nerds... :(

Post by Beef » Mon Aug 13, 2007 3:48 pm

I got called a nerd today... :( , by a hotty as well! I went to town today and, by chance, met up with some old friends. We went around together for a bit and i insisted we went into Gamestation (of course  ) and apparently it's nerdy to A) buy retro games B) insist they are complete with manual and in good condition and C) spend over 5 minutes doing this! I mean, they called it me in jest and left when they got bored, but that's because i knew them. What makes a nerd!?

I get the censored taken a little when I but old games, but I can see why on the complete bit and the time issue. When Im in GS its a quick glance in the window and bucket, not much more is really needed as its mostly a few hundred copys of Fifa

haha! True dat, i guess what i'm getting at is that it's kind of more of a private hobby that it's hard to share with many people. In my case, anyone, not that i'm terribly bothered.

Nerd is an insult now?

I presume these people will never need (for instance) medical care if they can't stand to be in the presence of someone with half a brain who doesn't list his pastimes as "Drinking, fighting, drinking, fighting and drinking".

Nerd has always been an insult. Geek is not.

I take umbrage at the former, pride in the latter.

There are several definitions of geek in the dictionary. Here's one:

A carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts , such as biting off the head of a live chicken

You a carny then?

What he said. Nerds are like socially inept geeks.

Nerdism was a complete package I thought. Buying a few games doesn't qualify in my book.

Beef, those who called you nerds are the ones who have got more to hide about themselves than you have. All they are doing is trying to impress their other mates cos by the sound of things they are not really your "old friends" if they take the Mick of you at their own free will. Don't tell me they haven't got Tetris or Snake in their mobile phones, cos if they do then they are also classified as nerds if thats their opinion of retro gamers.

no , you'd have to take the game home , dissasemble the code , then reassemble it into a Star Wars game . Whilst wearing a pair of fake Dr.Spock ears .And listening to the 101 greatest Spectrum loading sounds CD
