Recently I've been discovering the Sega Master System and how amazing it really was. I went directly from the Atari 2600 to my Commodore 64 right into being a Mega Drive owner.

My brother had an NES. So except for a couple of games I got with the Power Base adapter, I never really had a chance to experience the system. I'm extremely impressed.

That having been said, I thought a good old fashioned poll might be fun. Largely, because I have done a Poll here yet. I made sure to search to see if one had been done recently and I didn't see any, so here goes.

The SMS with some great and innovative games and legacy that would lead into the Mega Drive and Beyond.

The NES also with some great games, legendary franchises, and legacy that is still with us today.

You make the call.

I gotta say, that being a Mega Drive kid and only really having a certain limited exposure to Nintendo until very recently, I gotta go with the SMS. I am thrilled to discover this new aspect of Sega, a company that is really dear to my heart. Plus, Govellius and Alex Kidd are as life consuming and fun as any Mario and any Zelda game.

Both were awesome. Back in the day in NZ, Nintendo wasn't really that big, it was Sega that took our Country by storm with SMS then MegaDrive Aka Genesis.
I remember buying a SMS over the phone from a shop in the city and getting it sent to me with Afterburner, Choplifter, and a few others. It was just amazing at the time. Happy memories.

NES is a fantastic machine, but I too loved the SMS.

Ah, memories of the old playground wars. The two sides: SEGA and NINTENDO. You were either one or the other. The arguments were bitter. I voted for the Master System, by the way. I have a goal of purchasing every console that Sega released. I recently managed to purchase a Sega SG1000 Mark III for a very reasonable price, after a tip-off on this forum for a website that specialises in Japanese consoles!

I didn't have either, but I played a lot of both at a friend's house.

For me, the NES just edges it with its classic games and franchises.

Has to be SMS as the NES was non-existent up here. I still don't think I've ever played a real NES and never known anyone who owned one. SMS was everywhere.

I remember seeing the TV adverts about the NES in the late 80s. Still the Master System had been my prefer choice as the replacement for the Atari 2600 (redesign model).

It has to be the SMS for me - I've always found Nintendo's 'Famiy Friendly image' ment that they didn't cater for my taste in gaming. Don't get me wrong - there's nothing wrong with the NES - it's a superb machine (and I've just bought one off eBay) but if I count out my favourite games for both platforms - there's more on the SMS than on the NES - and I was never a big fan of Mario - especially being as I played Sonic first !!!

I loved the original design with the card games on it too. When I bought mine I didn't have the Alex Kidd game free, but the Card game 'Transbot', which wasn't a bad little shooter.

SMS for me. The various Alex Kidd and Wonderboy games are still favourites of mine.
