Your Most Disappointing Purchase Ever?

Post by GovanGer » Fri Jul 06, 2007 10:29 am

What game have you been really looking forward to, only to discover that it really really sucked?

I got an Amiga CD32 when it came out.

I was only about 13 at the time and all my mates tried to talk me out of it, but I thought it was great at the time (and the Man Utd game for it is the greatest football game EVER!)

I remember waiting for months for Rise of The Robots to be released for the CD32. It looked absolutely amazing. I would sit looking at magazine screenshots for ages.

I finally got it for a birthday or a christmas, can't remember which, and I remember that it cost £59.99 from Virgin.

I popped the cd in, and all looked well as the intro, etc loaded up.

Then I pressed START.

WTF?!?!?! What do you mean I can only go the crappy nude blue guy??

aaaaaarrrrrgh!

I REALLY looked forward to that game as well :(

A notable mention also goes to Showdown: Legends of Wrestling on the PS2. All seemed well until one of the many MANY glitches meant that the Ultimate Warrior DIDN'T HAVE A FACE!!!.

:D

Gameboy Advance still remains my no.1 disappointed purchase for a gaming device. For a game, it must be Ferrari 355 Challenge for the Dreamcast & Dangerous Streets for the CD32. F355 I found very arcadey with no thrills & Dangerous Streets was worse than the Amiga version of Street Fighter 2.

Auto Modellista for PS2... man that game was hyped up so much and turned out to be rubbish. Thankfully the import copy proves to be worth it's weight with proper handling.

XII for PS2 also. Felt much like GoldenEye and frankly, I am no fan of that game. The funny thing here is both these games are cel-shaded, guess I've no luck with those types.

Perhaps, there's always Cel Damage too although was only released on the systems I didn't own over here (GC/XB). I have tried JSR Future on XB, but I wasn't really into that at the time.

I agree, although he points out the 'arcade' aspect, although it is an arcade game in the first place. Otherwise, for what it does, it does well (pardon the fact there aren't...*cough*... many cars) and I think it's one of the best racers availible on Dreamcast.

I agree about Rise of the Robots, my biggest dissapointment. I too remember reading the articles and droolling at the screenshots. I got it for the A1200, I remember picking it up and walking 2 miles back home, soooo excited.....then i loaded it up and waited for this over-hyped A.I. that the enemy robots have.
I completed the game on my first attempt....I held my amiga joystick to the top left and kept pressing the fire button.

....graphics looked great though at the time...cannot possibly take that away
