It would appear Microsoft are trying to do something about the problem and warranties.

Take a look;

This looks like good news for me, if you've seen the thread I started a while back.
Why retro? Because you never forget your first love.

Good on them, trust and customer service is the key to selling more consoles!

Well, this is surely great news and a victory for customer service...

...but...

...the fact that it's Micro$oft; why do I get this nagging feeling that they would surreptitiously install or make unknown changes to block someone doing something in the future... [/suspicion]

They've probably had some savvy customers threatening court action if they don't repair their 12 month+ old consoles , so they've decided to play the PR card before they're forced to

Got the right result, didn't it? :|
This is a good thing anyways, last thing I needed was to get the 3 reds on my 360 this time next year. :D

Well timed. Just before they have to face all the media at E3... Pfft.

So, as I've posted elsewhere, this is all very fab but what about those of us who paid for extended warranties and now find everyone else gets them for free?

Exactly, which is why I am considering cancelling my warranty with Currys. The best thing about it is I may cancel anytime as it is paid monthly for as long as I want. I would hit my head on the table very hard though if I did cancel the warranty, got the 3RL in 3 years time & a day after the 3 year warranty runs out.

M$ knew the machine was faulty when they rush released it to get it out and started before the PS3 turned up, they are just a bit gutted they didn't get away with it...

I hardly think it's a case of "well done Microsoft" -- it's taken them about 20 months to stop lying and finally do something.

My mate is now on his 4th Xbox 360 in 16 months or so, he has a 5yr warrenty lucky guy but he has relegated his box to the children now and bought a PS3, he said its better than the 360 already as his first one has lasted more than 7 days lol.

I on the other hand have a lovely 360 that is 6 months old and never gives me any trouble (except for random crashes on oblivion all the time grr)
other than that its ace.

but....

I am still in love with my wii, its my little favourite I think such a fun little console.
yay for nintendo
actually no - boo , wii need more games

All the more reason for them to get the 65nm chip version shipped asap.l

This version will probably eliminate the 3 red light problem and will therefore save them money on future sales returns.

Watch this space me thinks.

The 65nm thing is entirely a rumour created by the internet.

And almost certainly would do little to nothing to solve the problem anyway.
