Best remakes of old games available?
What do you think are the best remakes of old available?
Here is my list:-
Oolite (Elite Clone)
T4 Funeral (Turrican clone, and I know there is another one called T2002 but I haven't tried it yet!)
Alien Breed (Alien Breed clone, sadly 1 player only yet!)

As I mentioned in another thread, I'm going with the really awesome updated Knight Lore recently entered in the GP2X development competition.

Oolite is superb, and it doesn't leave us poor deprived Linux users out either.
and, um... where's that trumpet... oh, yes...
Midnight/MU (multi-player Lords of Midnight), arguably the best of the LOM remakes at the moment, even if I say so myself.
Mind you. I tend to be more interested in remakes of my favourite 8-bit games rather than the best remakes regardless of genre, so I guess it's a subjective choice.

Thanks for the reply. Oolite is great. I have managed to get up to Deadly so far. It is a long haul up to Elite! I haven't tried any of the expansions for it yet! It is good it is on Linux as well.
The Alien Breed Clone is Alien Breed 2 Obliteration.
Here is the web link :-

I have tried Hurrican as well. It is quite good. I think T4 funeral is the beat version I have seen of Turrican remade. It has a good control system you can set up seperate firebuttons for fire, wheel, bomb, and side explosion. For nostaglia I even use a Competition Pro, but the USB one nowadays.
I'll try the other games.

Agree about Oolite and also Urquan Masters too.
Freedroid is not a bad version of Paradroid either on the GP2X.

The is a Paradroid remake for the PC as well, I think it was shown in Retro Gamer, and there was a remake of the old Ghostbusters game as well.
An interesting remake of Carrier Command is available (it is a commerical game, but now on budget) it is called Hostile Waters. I would recommend it, it was released a few years ago so you can still get hold of it!
Oolite is great. Once you get used to the mouse control you are away! It is even available for SGI!!!

I got Hostile Waters - has the voice talents of Tom Baker and Paul (Blakes 7 ) Darrow in it - not many games can say that!Katzkatz wrote:The is a Paradroid remake for the PC as well, I think it was shown in Retro Gamer, and there was a remake of the old Ghostbusters game as well.
