Stuey's Awesome Name-That-Game Challenge

Post by Rev. Stuart Campbell » Sat Jun 27, 2020 12:15 pm

So this week I've been well into Head-On games, starting with the arcade original:

But I'm going mad trying to find out the name of a remake that I (incompletely, clearly) remember. It would have been 1980s/90s, cute 16-bit Bubble Bobble-ish graphics, with the maze walls in alternating colours like F1 rumble strips.

It's definitely NOT Konami's Fast Lane, which is a bit more sophisticated:

I'm pretty sure it was a landscape-format screen, and in my head it was on the SNES but I've been through this video of every SNES game ever and there's no sign of it:

I also checked this PC Engine one fruitlessly:

So I reckon it must have been an arcade one. Anybody got any ideas?

No, definitely not that - funnily enough I was just playing it the other day, and Yuu Maze and the Atari 8-bit homebrew port. Raimais has a lot of freedom of movement, the one I'm thinking of plays much closer to the original Head-On. It's got a very Konami/Taito sort of look, bright and pastelly, but I've been through the entire Konami and Taito catalogues on MAME and no joy there either. And there's nothing useful in the Wiki entry for Head-On.
