Tiger Road - US versions?

Post by merman » Wed Dec 11, 2019 5:15 am

So I'm researching the Capcom arcade game Tiger Road and am trying to check some facts.

1. Wikipedia lists alternative US versions for C64 and Amiga. I can't find any further references to these online. Does anybody know any more?

2. Which board/system does the original arcade game run on? I know it is JAMMA compatible, but is it CPS-1 or a bespoke board?

1. Only US versions of the game? Not quite sure on that one, but port wise we got:
Amiga
Atari ST
PC Engine (Japan only I think?)
Amstrad CPC
ZX Spectrum
Commodore 64
MS Dos

Granted several of the computer ports might well have been UK/Euro centric ports, I'm not sure I'm afraid. Either way, most of the ports were... not great, like several of Capcom's other arcade ports. The PC Engine version is still my favourite of the bunch - it gets an art style overhaul, fantastic port as well, definitely my favourite of the bunch.

2. Tiger Road was a pre CPS1 Capcom game, no idea on the actual arcade board used though only that its Jamma compatible.

There is at least a US cover variant for the Amiga, though the screenshots on the back appear to be the same as the EU release:

There is one of these on ebay, but it's sealed, so you can't just ask the owner to pop the box open to check the manual for any developer details:

Bit pricey too.

Shadowman, I said "alternative" US versions. Like with Bionic Commando, there's a UK version and a US version.

Antiriad, I had encountered the US cover art but again it doesn't seem to be a different game within.

Merman the US PC Engine Tiger Road was different to the jap version as it was made far easier and did away with randomly spawning enemies. Every 1 credit replay on Twitch is the US version, allegedly the jap version it’s impossible to pass level 4 as enemies spawn over you as ultimate jump. PC engine version is different as in you fight monsters you only fight men in the arcade game.

I read it was fine by the same team as Trojan and was originally going be called Trojan 2, it’s definitely not CPS1 I read it’s the same hardware as Trojan. But can’t seem to find the link
