Emulators for Z80 Based machines

Post by Jonathan » Fri Aug 16, 2019 3:38 pm

Hi folks,

I'm seeking good emulators for Z80-based machines that have an option to import binary files directly to RAM, or have a half-decent assembler built-in. I'm aware of emulators for the ZX Spectrum and the Amstrad CPC464 so no need to tell me about those, I'm looking for other machines now. A good MSX emulator with a binary-import-to-RAM would be lovely! I'll also look at any Z80 machine for which there might be any interest in new game development. I would even consider obscure curiosities if they have good emulation with an assembler/import binary option and online technical documentation...

Any suggestions?

OpenMSX is a good MSX emulator that covers all MSX machines and works on Windows, Mac, Linux and Android.

You don't have to pay for emulators, there's no end of free ones, especially for PC. I'd go as far as saying the majority of emulators are free.

Yeah, a lot of the free emulators are better than the ones you pay for too.

Anyway, this is a bit of a necro, but here are the emulators for Z80 systems I use:
Amstrad CPC - WinAPE, Caprice, Arnold
GameBoy - VBA-M
MSX - BlueMSX
Sega Master System (and other Sega 8-bits) - Genesis Plus GX
Spectrum - Spectaculator (one of the few worth paying for), Spin, Fuse
ZX81 - EightyOne
Everything Else - Retroarch (which incorporates a lot of cores from the above emulators anyway)
