Game Recommendations: MacIntosh

Post by demon » Fri Mar 22, 2019 5:33 am

I looked for this in the sticky thread with game recommendations for any system, but didn't find such discussion, only a thread on Apple computers but not the MAC line... I realize this is definitely not among the most common retrogaming option :)

So what would be some good and famous games you would recommend?

For the sake of staying "retro", let's consider only the "Classic MAC OS" era of 1984-2001, but I would also say the older the better 8)

I start with my own few picks:

- Dark Castle
- The Oregon Trail
- Caesar III

I have the same question. I just upgraded a Macintosh Centris 610 with SCSI2SD, RAM and VRAM updates. It's running OS 7.5.3

There's quite a few text adventure. I'm particularly keen to give Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, a go.

I've also tried Star Wars Arcade, and on my 68040 it's very smooth, but no colour and no sound...

Not being a Mac guy, even back in the day, a few solid recommendations would be appreciated here, too. :D :D :D

There was a rather good version of Wolfenstein 3D for the Mac running on the Doom engine and with higher quality assets than the DOS original (much like the 3DO and Jaguar versions):

Also, a very competent version of Prince of Persia with higher res graphics than the DOS version:

And of course Marathon, Mac's "Doom killer" and the spiritual predecessor to Halo:

These from the top of my head.

Might be worth mentioning that there was also a Mac based games console, Apple Pippin, but it was not successful (much like Commodore's Amiga CD32).
