Has anyone else tried Tetris 99 on the Switch yet? Great fun, not managed to win yet, 3rd is my best. Thoroughly recommend it :D

8th seems to be my best so far.

Now, when do all your other puzzle games get the Battle Royale treatment Nintendo? I need Puzzle Leage 99/Tetris Attack 99 in my life!

I've had a few goes and picked up some top ten placings, but I can't say it's grabbing me much; I just don't think the Battle Royale aspect meshes that well with Tetris. Others may, of course, agree to differ.

Finally won first place after lots of second places. Still enjoying this, played it far too much this weekend!

This might just get me to subscribe to the Switch online service.

When this was announced during the Nintendo Direct, there were messages in the RG staff group chat bidding me farewell and telling me I could troll 98 players at once. Predictably, I love it.

I grabbed second place on my first go, top ten most games I play and win about 10% of the time. I have amassed enough chicken dinners that I've taken to calling myself Colonel Sanders. Highlights so far include back-to-back first places last night, and a game in which I KO'd 14 people including almost everyone from 2nd - 11th (only 6th place escaped).

The only thing I don't like is the fact that you have to visit the game's store page on the eShop for any instructions - which is important, as the significance of the badges and targeting options isn't clear without them. I don't mind it too much, but it's a bit of an oversight in an age when most games have some form of in-game tutorial or manual.

I had no thought to consider looking at the instructions for any depth, I was just blindly playing Tetris for as long as possible.

Anyone hazard a guess as to why this is free? Encourage people to use Nintendo Switch Online is the only thing I can think of. I don't remember seeing any microtransactions in the game? Then again, I haven't looked, I just haven't been presented with any I suppose.

My guess is that this is the first part of something bigger. The copyright screen makes reference to Nintendo characters being property of Nintendo, which is interesting because there aren't any right now. Likewise, the Stats section has "All" and "Tetris 99" tabs, but Tetris 99 is the only game mode. Drew tells me that people have combed through the data and found references to a Marathon mode too.

First tournament starts this weekend. 999 players who win a game at random could win £9.99's worth in MyNintendo Gold Coins.

So, the last few times I've played this I've been pretty much demolished and barely made it to top 50. Maybe all the casuals (like me LOL) have dropped off and left the good people - for me it's no longer fun, just leaving me pissed off, so I've deleted it.

I'm still enjoying this, 9 wins so far, get top 10 most times but get the occasional pounding. I haven't noticed it getting any harder or easier.
