I bought a Switch at Christmas and also got a 2nd hand Wii-U as a present with a load of games. I use both!

A friend has all of the current consoles. I haven't been to his place since he had a Switch, but pre-Switch we spent most time playing on the Wii U, which implies it was best for pick up and play multiplayer.

I played Mario Kart on the Switch recently and (aside from the absence of the battle mode) I'm wondering if Wii U Mario Kart is actually better. The tracks seem to have become overly complex on the Switch version. Saying that, I think I'll probably wait to get a Switch - maybe when some of the games reduce in price.

That's now. There are loads of games where the price has dropped, a load more that are just plain inexpensive, and a few more that are free to play. With the exception of a coup,e of titles, I've never paid more than £25 for a game, and most have been well under that. Regular sales are surprisingly generous for a Nintendo system, with only the first party games not getting hefty discounts.

Modded Wii U should play all pre Switch Nintendo games which is a fair deal in my book.

Edit: well, except 3DS games, since the system never got a "3DS Player".

a 3DS player would've been a great add on for the Wii U.

I feel so too but the system was too shortlived for it to materialize. Think Nintendo stopped making such add-ons after the GameCube, but the Wii U already was a bit of a "hybrid" system anyway (with the Switch being an actual one).
