Please Help with Sega Saturn to upscale on my HDTV.

Post by darklurch » Mon Jan 21, 2019 11:54 pm

Hello, I'm needing some help with getting my Sega Saturn to upscale to my HDTV. I did some research and thought i had bought the right items, but im running into problems. I'm using a Sega Saturn Compatible RGB SCART Cable (Csync) and CiBest SCART + HDMI to HDMI Converter Adapter, Support 480I(NTSC)/576I(PAL) to 720P/1080P HDMI Signal. When i turn on the saturn the converter shows on the screen, and shows the different setting i can toggle through, but doesn't show an input of NTSC. I can hear the Saturn start up through the tv, but that's it. I'm not sure if i have a bad cable, converter or if its just the tv. I have tried two different hdtvs and have the same results. Down below is a link to the products that i bought on amazon, and the Sega I bought on ebay. If anyone knows what is wrong or what i should try please reply. Thank you for your help.

Not sure what's going on there, but the first place I'd look is your upscaler.

Things to try:
- Test it with a Saturn game that does proper 480i output (Virtua Fighter 2, Fighters Megamix)
- Test it with your other consoles - most PS2 games and all Xbox and Gamecube games output in 480i as a default
- Could you try a DVD player with it?

If you get a proper picture using these methods, then it's likely that your upscaler doesn't accept the low-resolution 240p signals that retro consoles produce. In that case, you'd need a different upscaler.

Just plug the scart into the TV and it should work without all this upscaling bollocks

Good idea, IF the TV has scart!

My 65" 4K TV only has 4 HDMI, no aerial, no scart, no component. I have kept my old 50" Plasma to play my old consoles on as that has everything

Yeah, modern TVs are increasingly having HDMI only and that's it.
