It will be released for free but the boxed version and the soundtrack will be buyable.

Meanwhile, 3D Realms are making a new original Quake engine powered FPS.

Seems like "old school" 3D shooters from the 90s are making a comeback, also keeping in mind the excellent Ion Maiden and several other games like DUSK, Amid Evil, Apocryph, Overload, etc.

Played through the first few levels. Looks really good with some great lighting effects.

Does feel a bit linear though....
