New Consoles

Looks like we are getting towards that time again when new console chat is on gaming 'journalists' minds. From what people are inferring we are looking at 'holiday' 2020 for one if not both from Microsoft and Sony. I cant be the only one that feels like not enough time has passed since the last generation. I still have a 360 in my bedroom and it gets the same if not more use than my Xone.

Games take so much time to develop, it feels like the current gen has only really just hit its stride.
If new consoles are launched in 2020 I very much doubt I'll be buying anything day one. It'll more likely be 2022 before a decent software library is available (and it'll probably be download only).

Yeah I think since so much of gaming enjoyment comes from design and gameplay the current consoles should still have a lot to offer. I think this will certainly be the case with the Switch as I feel like it's probably not even half way through it's life cycle.

However good many big games have been at their core, this gen has felt like a generation of discontent with regards to bugs, microtransactions and loot boxes etc. It's not been too bad on Nintendo's platforms but I can't remember so much backlash towards industry trends in the delivery of content, and in some cases the design of that content with it's delivery in mind.

I expect things to only get worse with what seems to be an inevitable move to digital only systems, so I'm in no rush to get there. Even PS3, Xbox 360s and Wii Us seem relatively no-nonsense compared to now.

Yep the min its digital only then I am out. With the size of games, the lack of control you have with a dig product over a disc or a cart

All the people who are after new systems I always hear the same things from them

4k 60hz will it do 8k !!

Even with digital only, it could be done well, I just have little faith it will be. Hate to sound like a biased fanboy but for me Nintendo look like the safest bet for a fair digital experience.

Ill wait for games of note before getting worked up, TBH graphics wise we have yet to see any massive leaps from PS3 to PS4 same with 360 to Xbox1

Nope nor me and I have an Xone and PS4 the games look good but so do a lot of 360 and PS3 in my eyes. Might just be my age but I really could not give a crap if a game is running at 900p or 1080p. As for 4K, yes I have a TV but almost nothing to watch in 4K
